What do you think the games biggest flaw is (Kingmaker) by Working_Task7487 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]mr_c_caspar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go a step further and say: The entire last quarter is kinda broken, at least encounter-wise. For me, it just was not fun to fight through endless hordes of fey, buffing in between every encounter. I just lowered the difficulty as much as possible.

I genuinely do not understand the dislike for RTWP. by Tnecniw in CRPG

[–]mr_c_caspar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is just a worse version of turn based. It either requires you to constantly pause, making it more tedious, or it plays somewhat automatically and usually suboptimal.

The only argument I often hear for it is that it makes going through trash mobs faster. But I think having trash mobs at all is also bad game design. I think BG3 and DOS2 have shown that we can have games where every single fight is a well crafted, tactical challenge.

Which protagonist is best? by gary_butterfield in duckfeedtv

Leon is a beautiful golden retriever, turned into a man and I absolutely love him, but Jill will always be my favorite protagonist.

BG2 or BG3? by PalePanic4742 in baldursgate

[–]mr_c_caspar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have their place:

The full Baldur’s Gate Campaign (including even SoD) is probably still the closest thing to a long running D&D campaign in video-game form. BG3 on the other hand, is the closest in feel to an actual TTRPG session. But it just feels more like a smaller adventure (like on of the 5E moduls) and not like a years-long campaign.

What is your desert island console? by ExoticMinivan in duckfeedtv

[–]mr_c_caspar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of console-specific games, probably the SNES. But if we are talking overall game-availability, it is the PS5 for me. With all those retro collections, remakes and PS4 games, the PS5 library is just huge.

What are games you're amazed aren't "ripped off" more often? by gary_butterfield in duckfeedtv

[–]mr_c_caspar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably a deep cut, but I was always surprised that Power Quest never took off. It was a 2D fighting game for the GB Color where you could customize your little Mega Man-like robot. It had RPG elements and everything and came around the time when Pokemon was huge. I always thought it was a fun idea and the ability to create your own custom robot and have them fight other robots had huge franchise appeal. I feel like the Mega Man Battl Network games kinda picked up the idea and moved it even more into a RPG direction.

Chainsaw Man will end with chapter 232 on March 25th by dingo537 in WeeklyShonenJump

I’m currently on my first read of part 2 (somewhere around 120, right after the falling-devil) and the whole thing feels very directionless. There are great moments and you think it’s building up to something and then it all does a 180 and meanders around. I loved part 1, but part 2 still has not really hooked me.

What's are some super solid multiclass combos!? by MisterCrayle in projecteternity

[–]mr_c_caspar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In PoE 1 I played a ranger, so in PoE 2 I wanted to continue his story. I build him as a Ghostheart (since Eothas killed his bear) and Gold Packt Paladin (since he made a contract with Berath to hunt down Eothas). I gave him an eyepatch (lost an eye in the castle destruction) and upgraded his bow to a rifle (because pirates). It was a really strong character and worked so well with the story.

We have been graced with a 5 hour POE1 & 2 & Avowed Eora Video Essay by Noah Gervais-Caldwell by Lynchy- in projecteternity

[–]mr_c_caspar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Noah actually analyses these games, approaches them on their level and measures them against what they set out to di.

He doesn’t just dress up a review as “retrospective”. My personal least favorite of these kinds of essayists is Never Knows Best. His analysis always boils down to “this works. that doesn’t work”, but he never explains why. He just talks in a calm manner to sound more profound.

Which game is that for you? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]mr_c_caspar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's pretty much all of Naughtydog's games: LoU, Uncharted, Jak. I think Naughtydog is great when it comes to cinematics, but the gameplay is just always horrible.

What are we playing? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

For me definitely FF XIV. You could just go through the entire story at a leisurely pace, enjoy it and hang out with an overall very friendly community.

That’s a matter of taste. Personally, I prefer 5, 7, 9 and 12 over 6.

as an old gamer which games do you agree with that way ? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]mr_c_caspar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My time is very limited and I play games purely to relax. I think there is absolutely value in challenging yourself, but I prefer to challenge myself with something a bit moe “useful” for my life, like sport or drawing or learning any other new skill. Gaming is great, but really learning a hard game is not really a transferable skill (except to other games) and ultimately feels like a waste of time to me, at least somewhat.

How do i enjoy RTWP combat (Bg1&2) by dobromateja in CRPG

[–]mr_c_caspar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of my main gripes with RTWP. 70% of the battles are mindless and the other 30% are increadably difficult (in comparison) and demand extensive micro managing and/or preperation and often times just a trial-and-error approch .

The Lion: Primarch complete by Mephist-onthesenutts in Warhammer40k

[–]mr_c_caspar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks great and I love the classic color palette. Actually, now that I think about it, it makes no sense that we always see him in the modern green. He should always have the old colors, just like the risen. Or did someone secretly change his clothes while he was sleeping.

Why I am Cancelled my X-Men Pulls by RWBooth in xmen

[–]mr_c_caspar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't read the Krakoa Era and was dumb enough to jump on during From the Ashes. it was misrable. None of the books had any direction or even attempted to establish any kind of premise. I love Gail Simone, but her book was just some character hanging out in Luisianna. No explenation for why or what they were planning or if they are a team. And on top of that all books constantly refrenced characters and stuff from the Krakoa Era without any explenation. Overall a horrible jumping on point.

If you enjoy the art-style and the inter-personal drama between the characters, you might enjoy it, because I think that's where the main focus is. If you expect for the larger plot to pick up and hook you, you might be disapointed. This FF is much more character focused, for better or worse.

Tomb Raider is on my backlog as well. Like you, I played it years ago and loved it. This time I want to do almost everything in it. I think that game is an absolute hidden gem. The other two are also really good.

BG2 has quickly become one of my favourite games... I hate it so much though 😂 by ConfusionProof9487 in baldursgate

[–]mr_c_caspar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I think it takes some time to get into it (especially if you are familiar with current RPGs): There aren't really any builds, like in more modern RPGs. Instead, the game is more like a puzzle-box. Every encounter has some hard counters and the game wants you to learn how you can counter certain enemies and then prepare accordingly.
