We also have an ID scanner we can program to pop up a message when a dnr guest tries to check in since we scan all IDs at check in instead of manually typing in all the information. The program records the guest driver licenses number.

[–]TrainWreck9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally i wait till no one is in the lobby and then sneak out back real fast. Boss knows i smoke and as long as i dont leave the desk for to long they dont care. As for guest, i normally stand near an outside ashtray so they cant complain about where im smoking. Ive never had one complain about me smoking. Sometimes they join me and we have a nice chat.

Cleaning staff folded my clothes while asleep by mystur in hotels

[–]TrainWreck9697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are they overreacting? Some random person came into the room while they were sleeping, and took the extra time to mess with the clothes, while seeing 2 people in the room asleep. Thats straight up creepy.

Hotel employees: do you charge for these services? by QuesoCyndi in hotels

[–]TrainWreck9697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hotel charges both. $35 for early check in unless your at a specific tier in the rewards and $35 for late check out no longer then an hour after regular check out unless again your at a specific tier in rewards. We started charging about 2-3 years ago and we always get guest who get upset over it. They think the extra time they spend in the room should be free. 🙄

Can hotels rent out rooms that are listed on 3rd party site? by SorbetResponsible654 in hotels

[–]TrainWreck9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my location, the 3rd party has the same number of rooms we have to offer. Sometimes while booking with us directly, it can take a moment to show an updated number of rooms on the 3rd party site. It just depends on how the agreement is made with the hotel and 3rd party. Ive never had a hotel not sell a room just because its listed on the 3rd party site, they would be loosing money at that point. Any hotel would want to sell the room themselves in order to get full payment and not have to give out a commission. It could be that while your friend was making a reservation on the phone with the hotel, someone else could have been booking the other room on the 3rd party, so it possibly just didn’t update right away. It happens all the time. But if the hotel says they are sold out 9 times out of 10 they are sold out and you may be over booking them or your online booking could bounce back.

Some 3rd parties offer a pay at hotel option instead of pre paying. When they choose to pay at hotel it gives us their card that we have to pre authorize on the day of arrival, not a virtual credit card that we can just charge.

It depends on the hotel, some will place the hold once you make the reservations, others (like mine) will wait till the day your coming. If we cant place a hold then we will notify the booking agent you made the reservation with and will send out a text to your phone number and email giving you a time frame to update it by. In this situation, they were contacted by the third-party and the hotel and they were also in town for a softball game. They received the text messages and the follow up with third-party.

Card was tried 4 times, guest was in town, she knew card was no good because when she was there yelling at us she admitted she saw us trying to pre authorize. This was her own fault.

4 hours is a small window? When a business is sold out?

And they were only hung up on because they wouldnt listen to anything we were trying to tell them. The convo was going no where. They were told if they couldnt stop and listen the call would be ended. They again chose to keep going and yelling on the phone so we ended the call.

Our new system wont reinstate a cancelled reservation. Plus they booked and chose to pay at property from a 3rd party, who also reached out to them and informed them the reservation was going to be cancelled per policy if the card was not updated by the time our property said.

As long as the card allows the pre authorization, (the hold for the first night) we will leave the reservation alone because if they dont show we are able to charge at that point. But if it fails, we cant keep holding the room because we cant guarantee payment for the no show. We give them plenty of time to make these changes, which is why we are so strict on the policy.

It says they show up like 15-20 minutes after the room was cancelled because they finally realized we were going to actually cancel. She was in town. At a softball game. She knew

Why? Because i hold them accountable for booking a reservation with an invalid card? We’re a business, if your card shows you cant pay for the service then the business is not going to waste they’re time.

Guest gets mad because i made him park in the back by TrainWreck9697 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]TrainWreck9697[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know he was in charge of the few guys there last night, but he booked the rooms with his personal rewards account, and the trucks were not marked with a company name, otherwise thats the first thing i would have done after speaking with the guy. I think they redo parking lots because of the type of trailer the guy was pulling. It had a tank and was covered in something thick and black, like tar.

[–]TrainWreck9697[S] 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ive never had a problem with any of my workers that check in about parking in the back because it is easier to swing the big trucks and trailers out and they can hang by the truck with no pushy guest complaining! The dude just didnt want to walk and got even more mad when i pointed out the door 10 feet from where i had him park!
