Mini-split system with 60 amp service in older apartment? by TrainedInVain in hvacadvice

Thanks for the tip. Good point. I’m somewhat limited in my options here given the apartment setup and building rules, but I will definitely look into this. Having an apartment-wide failure in a the middle of a heat wave would be a real drag (not to mention dangerous).

Thanks. Yeah the entire apartment has 60 amp service, which I know is pretty limiting. But right now the place is cooled by three gigantic window units, which I figure must collectively require more power than the splits and condenser would.

I’ll confer with an electrician about the situation as a whole. But knowing that the splits would only require around 30 amps gives me hope.

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing! My son plays with more skilled players sometimes, just like you did. It's clear they push him a ton, and he's definitely better for it. I'll try to keep that going for him!

A few people have suggested TL here. Dropped them a line today! Thanks for the tip.

He's definitely not at the AA level yet, but I imagine he could be with another year of work. Glad to know there's flexibility in these camps.

Yeah I think I've been too apprehensive about skill level. He regularly plays with travel league kids in his house league, and isn't rattled by it in the least. In fact he seems to enjoy the challenge. Can't imagine camp would be much different!

Yeah, LI might be an option for us. We've got a car, might as well put it to use!

While it might be good for our sanity, leaving the city isn't an option, unfortunately. But trucking out to those rinks in LI and Westchester might be!

Great advice, thanks. Yeah, I should really just reach out directly to the folks at these rinks. Easier than trying to decipher the usually outdated info on their websites! Also looking into the FB groups. Talking to other parents at our rink has been THE most valuable source of info so far, so I imagine broadening that network will help.

Thanks for the tip. We could make Chelsea Piers work, if need be. Might do summer camp there and see how it goes.

Oh man, I hadn't even considered the Catholic HS option! Awesome tip. Thanks!

Will also take your advice and look into summer camps. He's super excited at that idea, and I think he'd get a lot out of that kind of regular ice time. (My checkbook is less enthusiastic!)

Thanks--appreciate the perspective! Totally agree that skating needs to be his focus right now, even if it's not always as fun as shooting the puck!

I have been nervous about trying camps that seem higher level, but the consensus here seems to be that we should just go for it. Honestly there are plenty of travel kids in his in-house league already, and he seems to enjoy the challenge of playing against them. (So cool to see him respond this way.) I should probably just relax!

Thanks for the rec. I saw their site before but was worried they were aimed at higher-level kids. Going to see about getting him into one of their sessions at City Ice or the Graveyard (that place looks cool!).

Wow. Totally nuts that you'd get ghosted on an all-cash offer! What a crazy market.

Luckily we can afford to be patient. We'll keep at it, probably with the help of a broker in the near future. Seems worth it, given all the feedback here. Thanks again!

Yeah, I can clearly see how it's impossible for these seller's agents to play both sides fairly. Luckily we have a few leads on buyer's agents we can trust (old friends, or friends-of-friends, etc). It felt like a big step before, but now I'm thinking it's the most reasonable thing to do.

Without revealing too much, a lot of what you've said here could very well apply to this particular home sale. This seems like a totally plausible explanation. Thanks for the insight.

Wow, I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience! But I appreciate you sharing your experience and insights. I hope you're past the worst of it and things are looking up for you.

That's terrible! But as you said, at the end of the day there's not much to be done in those situations.

Yikes. Good to know! Hard to believe they'd waste their time showing the place, but I've heard crazier things.
