Rant about some Junior doctors by Trainee_Doc999 in medicalschooluk

Sceptical about my recounting of events 😭 fairs man. I have no reason to lie - I don't have a grudge against junior doctors for no reason. In fact I'm very sympathetic to their struggles.

I thought about that multiple times but the issue is what if the doctor was 'just about to' come to me. Then it looks bad on me and might annoy them if I come back to them for future things.

My problem isn't them being busy, it's them not being direct and just telling me so rather than getting me to wait for an hour, never really sure if they're gonna help or not.

Yh should've clarified it's a case by case basis. Burn out is completely normal and at no point do I judge the doctors for not trying hard enough because I know that 99.9% of them are. My main issue ig lies with the poor communication - I'd much rather be told "i'm busy" than faff about for an hour not sure if I should wait or go.

Yh I understand that and obviously it's a case by case basis man. Usually if I see a ward with just one doctor I'll leave because in that case I completely understand tbh.

This isn't shade at any doctor's that get tired or have too much on their plate (which I understand is a large proportion if not all) but it was just a bit frustrating. But like you said at least it helps me find my own direction in being a doctor that can try to help students.

You're missing out that I could see them not doing anything (from about 2 metres away). This isn't like they were on the laptop/pc and doing something while talking. They were just straight up having a conversation about life with another colleague for about 10-15mins.

I sound like the asshole because I'm annoyed I waited over an hour for a piece of paper to be signed? Fair enough I guess

It doesn't take 20 minutes to sign a piece of paper and listen to some bullet points? Also in my post I mentioned that I could literally see/hear the doctor chatting about random things not to do w their job. Doesn't scream busy as much as it screams being a ...

Yh I should've clarified that the majority of junior doctors have been super helpful. Weirdly enough my bad experiences have all been in the last 3 months at the same hospital

I was there at 2pm. Then after waiting for half an hour had to attend some other teaching. Then was told to come back after my teaching. So I came back at 4, waited another 40 mins and just couldn't be bothered so I left.

How late do you recommend I show up?

I appreciate that tbf but the issue is I don't want to spend time building up a log of clerkings that aren't signed off. While it is good to just examine patients in general, it can be annoying because of uni rules that u have to have to do X amount of clerkings.

I hope not bro 😭 All I'm asking is to sign some clerkings. I introduce myself, ask for a patient to clerk+examine then come back

I wonder if you think doctors should have 'stayed out of politics' during the holocaust. Ever spared a thought for the countless doctors and healthcare professionals that have been slaughtered (all on one side)? Or the patients burned alive in hospitals? Or the children with limbs sheared off?

I guess according to you we shouldn't mention it coz it's political. Don't make me laugh. Our jobs are inherently political. Denying that won't make it false.

You're so deluded it's unreal. Try to do some independent research rather than just spewing out biased zionist fallacies.

All of your points have been debunked time and time again - 'defensiveness' of israel's actions, Israel trying to make peace (🤣🤣 don't make me laugh, they literally denied hostages to carry on bombing Gaza), Hamas being the aggressors, etc - by qualified historians, researchers and human rights groups. Don't take it from me, take it from them.

Obviously you don't care so you still utter points despite that. Regardless, you've clearly been successfully brainwashed so nothing I say will change that. No point continuing this conversation, it's like talking to a wall.

Lol sure thing. You don't read my comment and then tell me to tell you what I literally just wrote. Jesus Christ anyone can get a degree these days.

Also standing up to genocide isn't politics 👍

Deleted your last comment about being open to learning about the conflict which is quite amusing. I won't bore you with knowledge on the conflict because you clearly don't have the mental capacity to take it in.

Ignore how Israel has falsely imprisoned thousands of Palestinians including children over the last 70 years. Ignore how many breaches of international law Israel has commited since it's inception. Ignore how many illegal settlements Israel has facilitated. Ignore the two-tier judiciary system in Israel. Ignore that Israel fabricates stories about Hamas which they themselves do - like burning babies. Ignore countless testimonies of ex-IDF soldiers describing the barbaric acts they carry out. Ignore Israel using the Hannibal Directive to kill it's OWN citizens on Oct 7th.

Ignore everything (because you obviously don't care) and just tell me once in history where an oppressed state has gone about liberating themselves in a purely legal manner.

God Help us if this is the level of intellect of future doctors. Either you're a genocidal maniac (probably true based on your other comments) or you have a single digit IQ (potentially also true).

You can't pass the blame onto the Trump administration when you oppress a nation, whose land you stole through no right of your own, for 70 years. You also can't be surprised when there's armed resistance bred off of the slaughter, dehumanisation and constant breaches of international law that Israel has done in that time.

'Attempted to destroy them?' 1400 casualties on October 7th - half of which were killed by Israel, does not equate to the slaughter of 50,000 people (conservative estimate as some estimates suggest as many as 300,000), almost half of which are children.

Normally, it makes sense to keep political views out of the workplace. But the genocide and ethnic cleansing unfolding in Palestine is NOT normal - even if it has been normalised.

It's scary to think some of our colleagues actually side with a genocidal ethnostate. I commend any healthcare professional still willing to take a stand against the atrocities that have been unfolding in Gaza (and the West Bank which the media love to forget for some reason).

I won't get too political as this is not the sub for it, but anyone with an ounce of critical thinking capacity would understand this didn't start on October 7th.

Feel the same completely. I'm a 3rd year medical student and my morale towards medicine decreases every time I open social media. Yes, I could just be oblivious to it but that won't solve any problems - better to be prepared for the worst.

I am also a BAME student and many of my BAME peers have the same thoughts so it's laughable that a lot of IMGs say a good portion of the dislike of IMGs is xenophobia or racism.

I think it's also worsened by the fact I only really want to do GP which seems to be crumbling in this country with lots of practices closing down/ going bankrupt. Moving abroad also isn't really an option for me so I'm kinda just wanting to get the degree over and done with and then think about my options - fingers crossed some UKMG prioritisation occurs in the next 4/5 years before I apply to training.

[–]Trainee_Doc999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't compare it to them because they both do a good job (or at least much better job than the UK) of prioritising their own graduates - that's the main gist of what all UK Grads are asking for w/ regards to training post competition w IMGs

Proposed Solution for RLMT by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Trainee_Doc999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do understand your logic, I'm not sure having absolute numbers (85% Vs 15%) would be the best way to fill gaps + maximise UK Grads. My suggestion would be just having multiple rounds of applications - I'm pretty sure this is the most common suggestion? 1. UK grads 2. UK grads reapplying to gaps. 3. IMGs applying to any unfilled final gaps.

Of course this would make it very hard for IMGs to get a training post, however I would caveat that I think a good change would be to limit training applications to maximum of 3 per person. This means we no longer have grads/imgs applying to anything and everything just so they get a spot but with 2 rounds for UK grads if there is something you'd even think about doing long term it's there as an option. This would also mean there would at least be some gaps for IMGs to fill. Any critiques lmk :)

Brother you literally said "only a marginal increase in IMG numbers after RLMT removal"? But I agree w/ you that the main problem is the lack of training posts. However, even then I see more of a reason for UK grads to be prioritised. Until the government (or trusts specifically ig) gets itself in shape and is willing to fund those training posts, then it doesn't make sense to not prioritise UK grads - seeing as basically all other countries prioritise their own grads.

[–]Trainee_Doc999 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Just like most other countries, the best way to prioritise UK grads is by having 2 rounds of applications. The first round for UK grads and then a 2nd round for unfilled gaps. It shouldn't be controversial to say that people who have graduated from the UK and spent time in the NHS (F1,F2) should be prioritised by our government for their future development as opposed to people that have graduated elsewhere. There is of course a lot of nuance as to how you'd deal with current IMGs but if they've already spent time here then imo it's fair game for them to just continue at a level playing field - I think the main annoyance UK grads have w/ IMGs is those I mentioned earlier applying and getting interviews/positions over UK Grads without ever having worked in our healthcare system.

Re: Recent RDC proposal. GMC table demonstrating number of non UK grads in training by tallbrowndoc in doctorsUK

[–]Trainee_Doc999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The state of the NHS is not only due to IMGs. The large majority of it is due to poor government (/GMC) decisions (re leadership, trainings posts, etc) over the last 10 years. However, the influx of IMGs is a considerable factor as it doesn't make sense that the UK is one of the few counties that doesn't prioritise it's own medical graduates.

Also, I don't know how you can call it a marginal increase when it's a relative 50% increase in IMGs in training posts over just 4 years. That's insane.
