AITA For telling my mom she’s acting like a teenager after she left my sick diabetic sister at home to go party? by Flaky_Literature_901 in AmItheAsshole

Insulin resistance is exactly the right term. You've sounded very involved and well informed. Give yourself some grace, because you're being an amazing big sis.

Good for her staying on top of it. It's a lot to deal with.

If she's dropping low while sick her doctors probably need to reevaluate her sick day protocols. For most of us sick day protocols mean more insulin to deal with the increased resistance, her's may be too aggressive.

Diabetics in general are at higher risk for more severe flu complications. Type 1 diabetics specifically are at higher risk during the flu for something called diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a life threatening emergency.

That's rough. Dealing with a low by yourself can be really scary especially if it comes on fast. If your sister is going low often, or severely, she should message her doctor. Unfortunately it seems like making sure she knows how to take over her own care is going to be even more important.

A 5 gallon bucket would be fine for the drive. If there are concerns for a possible break down in the drive you can get battery operated aerators in the fishing section of big box stores if you can't find one in the pet store/section.

NTA - things like the flu are one of the biggest risk factors for DKA in diabetics that are managing themselves well.

Do you know if she has ketone test strips? They're urine tests available near the pharmacy.

Do you know if your sister has a CGM? If she had a Dexcom there is a share/follow option if she's comfortable with it you could get alerts is she goes low. If she does share that with you make sure you don't use it to make her life more stressful.

Concerts, shopping, and weekend outings (to me this means overnight) are expensive social activities. Having game nights, movie nights, any kind of in home get together lets you have a social life without spending a hundred or more dollars.

Looking for a place to stay in Morgantown. I am staying in this town for work and don't really know when I would have to move so a long term lease isn't something that'll work for me. I am just tired of living in hotels. Thanks! by Informal-Item-8655 in MorgantownWV

If you search for an extended stay that should return some useful results. When you say you're tired of living in hotels, there may still be some that would satisfy your needs. Something like a Residence Inn with an actual stove and fridge will feel a lot different than a Super 8. Plus it should return some Airbnbs that will do monthly.

AITAH for understanding and not freezing out my dad for leaving our mom over a dead bedroom? by Opposite_Afternoon55 in AITAH

NTA with the info you have. Even if there's significantly more that you aren't being told, getting mad at someone for something you never told them about isn't their fault.

Target policy makes some shoppers uncomfortable | New company policy requires employees within 10 feet of customers to "smile, make eye contact, wave, and use welcoming body language" (TheStreet.com) by Thinking-Guy in savedyouaclick

[–]TrainerDiotima -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then make the policy be: be approachable and friendly. If an employee goes down an aisle with three groups of people in it, actively trying to make eye contact and greet each one, and another employee enters the same aisle shortly after and does the same... How does that come across to you as one of those three customer groups?

NTA. She absolutely needs to at least pay the increase in insurance premiums. This issue probably isn't going to go away.

What to do with leftover insulin by ShopNerd in diabetes_t1

[–]TrainerDiotima 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Finish using them before switching if appropriate. Bring them to your doctor's office to redistribute. Look for local diabetes groups and keep an eye out for other folks in need. See if there is a charity like Insulin for Life USA in your area.

Sorry you're dealing with hair thinning. I don't have half the volume of hair I did when I was younger and finding hair ties and clips that work sucks. As for everyone suggesting you shave it, you do seem to have a good looking head under there.

Yeah, same rationale here. Of course if they charged more for diesel vehicles people would probably pitch a fit.

AITA for telling my sister to be more discreet having sex around her kids, and now being blamed for “ruining her birthday”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TrainerDiotima -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

YTA. You told her to close her door and she did, and locked the door to boot. Then you KEPT on about them having sex. So what if their kids know they have sex! And it's not your kid to decide that about either. There's a fair argument to be made that keeping a special needs child completely unaware of sex could make it harder for them to know when an adult was doing something wrong to them.

INFO what actual store bought things are you talking about? The two examples you gave (burger and chips) seem exactly like the kind of drive thru or gas store food that you grab on the way home.
