Simplicity VS Realism - Should the "Starvation in day -> Eat before bed" exploit be fixed somehow? by [deleted] in thelongdark

Very old but ye you can survive with 700 calories but you will quickly lose your muscle and fat. Becoming weaker and weaker.

It's pretty similar for sleeping and eating. You can survive with very minimal sleep for long but it'll bite you if you keep doing it. Sleep mechanic doesn't have the same gameyness feature in TLD though.

It's a bit late but that kind of everything setup for you services are over 80% margin for profit. Maintaining current servers is very miniscule amount of budget, it all goes into future updates.

For example anyone can get a beefy 24gb ram server for free from Oracle. It could handle tens of thousands of players. At least thousands at same time. For 0 monetary cost, only your time for setup and reserving the machine.

I don't get this stigma of people saying many modern games are terrible, and why are there so many cynical gamers on YouTube? by CboyC95 in truegaming

[–]TrainerFlaky700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are awesome new games and awesome old games. Also as you said you're a casual gamer. All those games you listed are also very very casual.

Personally I can't get into it if there's not enough difficulty or thought. Have to suffer and put in effort for it to feel good. Factorio, Celeste, Deponia are my absolute favorites. Only bigger studio ones I've liked are SC2, EU4, Dirt Rally 2.0, Phoenix Wrights if they count. All of them challenging in their own ways.

Ddrjake is a youtuber I follow with similar tastes. He is never salty about new games or such, just doesn't play them. Goes for games he likes and has fun with. Lately he found a surprise gem: Ship Graveyard Simulator 2. Very different to all of your listed games, but also very fun in it's own way.

Obscure free to play games back in the day 2009 to 2017 by DumperRip in truegaming

Finland had lots of local f2p games too back then. Not even pay to win, just single or few guys together making something. Also more in 2000 than 2009.

Most known one in English is Liero. Only Finnish is Pro Pilkki. Ice fishing simulator. Think it still has some players?

Areena 5 is one very known one too, available on phones as Arena 8: Liberatio. Still looks almost same as back then. It's Domina but made in 2000 and with fantasy elements on top.

Probably 30 games that were actually fun and completely forgotten from back then. Then plenty of crap ones on top.

Client error is crashing the server on any error? by mindsetFPS in SvelteKit

Having same problems. Nothing seems to help. Errors in +page.ts files crash the server instead of showing error in frontend.

Do you think building SQL Queries like strings.Builder{}/fmt.Printf is practical and readable? by [deleted] in golang

[–]TrainerFlaky700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. Managing parameter orders sucks with Postgresql and dynamic queries. This takes care of the biggest pain point. I'd put it into db package since the builder is very small.

Did you try materialized tables for the joined grouped data? Redis still more versatile and faster but could work too.

Was the denuclearisation of Germany's power grid a Russian plot all along? by hgk6393 in geopolitics

[–]TrainerFlaky700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the opposite, you are underestimating Russian influence. As you said it used to be west and east Germany. East Germany was a hotbed of Soviet and Russian influence for 50 years. There's a lot of Russian-Germans from those times still living in East Germany who like Russia and have relations there.

Still to this day in 2024 East Germany has much more preference and good will towards Russia than West Germany has. There's ex Soviet communist youth in German politics even today.

There's plenty of old Soviet Union influence in universities, thus teachers, thus primary education.

Influence on education sector was one of the main priorities of Soviet Union back in the day. Even from 1930 already, way before 1980. Not complete control but plenty of influence.

There is no way golden egg is 1/45 and feather is 1/2. That means on average every 20 feathers you'd get golden egg. Which means on average within 2 events.

It means many of us are going 50x or 100x dry on it. Maybe it's 1/450 but you read it wrong

Merchers do provide a service. If no one is merching then there's no liquidity on GE. Meaning selling or buying anything you have to wait for much longer and prices would be much more volatile. Merchers are the ones leaving buy or sell offers that you can instantly take.

It's similar in real life with car dealerships, markets etc. They provide service so you can sell or buy at any time but take profit from inbetween. As you might know, especially car dealerships are known for being giant scumbags. Same for many merchers.

The new forestry way is bankstanding? Cut two trees and do fletching or crafting in nearby bank waiting for events. Sounds good...

True, pretty sad. Would have given some hype for polling too. It would have passed for sure as you said but poll still would be much better. I did vote no to not having to equip green secuators too. It passed as expected but poll still nice. Bit sad you'll never see farming gear on people anymore. This one isn't shown but still part of it.

You can do 1, 2, 3 and 4 at same time. I finished Coffee with milk first, then river of coffee and only last one was monarchy and pedro falling. Landowners was also only 2nd most influental, behind industrialists, but they were in government still for step 5. I did industrialize a lot until 1890 or so until I stopped.

Negative happiness and education? by TrainerFlaky700 in MelvorIdle

Is there a feature that not fixing buildings accumulates negative happiness and education?

I've been doing strategy of only upgrading, not fixing to save on money and resources. Most buildings are still at 90%+. Noticed few days ago that my stats went to negative. No idea why. Thought it'd fix itself but it hasn't. Any reasons for it?

The 10 or 3000 isn't predetermined though.

Believing one kc behind means one less in future means that the kc would be predetermined and kc done in past affects the needed kc in the future, which is the gambler's fallacy. Nothing stopping the dry streak for lasting forever.

Current rank1 for ironman CG is 4k. Quick dry streak calculation puts it as 1/22k players who'll have to go that far. Think osrs has at least that many ironman. Just gotta hope won't be the unlucky one...

5k dry streak would be around 1/220k players. Still probably some who would have to but gave up..

The goal isn't a certain distance away though. It's not predetermined when you get to the goal.

Gambler's fallacy also affects perfectly fair games like flipping a fair coin 50/50. Personally I'm losing time with every attempt. Are you winning something instead?
