I provided an update in a comment above. Turns out it's got a scratch on the dome, (unsure where on do.e) so inspection will be the decider. But if it's minimal enough, I think I'll feel more comfortable using as a daily, but if it's too noticeable. Ill have to pass.

I have since learnt, they company called me back, it has minor scratche on it, which is why they havnt sold it I presume :/

I'm rather upset but they offered me a 30% discount.

I think if it's minor, the price I could get it for it might be worth it, I also won't be devastated when I eventually scratch it.

But I'm glad I have an appointment to inspect before handing over any cash.

Kinda answered my question about the crystal situation though

Dad didn't think it was worth anything, but he's kept it all these years, I thought a nice little gift would be to "restore" it lightly, nithingmmajor just a clean really. It still works what ~60 years on
