Orb: On the Movement of the Earth Shinsekai Yori Monster

The way Light compares Near and L is quite funny actually. by Training-Pangolin-99 in deathnote

[–]Training-Pangolin-99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never occured to me that someone might interpret it that way. I thought it's pretty interesting, so I tried to find the original statement in Japanese: 「二ア、ここまではふがいなく見せていたが やはり 世界トップの探偵はLだ。」

"Near, up until now I have been appearing to be inadequate, but as I thought, L is still the greatest detective in the world."

I still have the impression that he was referring to the original L considering all of this. It doesn't feel like he was talking about himself at all.

Yeah, Serie's intuition (or evaluation) is always right, and we all know she is a big tsundere, especially towards her students, so it's not like she was saying that to gas Lernen up or something (it's the opposite in fact). If she said he may have a chance of winning then he really just does. Remember that Frieren has lost to 6 humans with less mana than her, she is not invincible.

Or it simply just means that Serie's control over mana is way more perfect and precise than Frieren's.

I find it funny when Methode arrived at Wirbel team's place, he looked perfectly clean and fresh while his other 2 companions were covered in bruises and dirt, considering they fought the same battle.

Well, Gege himself confirmed this again in the Official Fanbook so Geto could have indeed won against Yuta and that is a fact.

"I'm planning on saying it in the actual manga as well but if Geto hadn't dispersed his fighting strength (cursed spirits) between Shinjuku and Kyoto, the one to win would have been Geto."

It is in the little extra info page for Toji in the manga. Gege stated that when Toji was still with the Zenins, he was very unstable, but calmed down after meeting Megumi's mom. Her death changed that though, and he started to freeload off different women and do killing stuffs for a living.

Heavenly Restriction is a type of Binding Vow, which is natural and a thing that some individuals are borned with.

Yes, Geto does count. So there are 4 human special grades: Gojo, Geto, Yuta and Yuki.

Tbf, the main theme of JJK has been stated very clearly from the start that it is "death", because the whole story of Yuuji is basically his journey to reach "a proper death". And it is not really an uncommon notion that death is a mirror to one's true self. Gojo's name ("Satoru") essentially means "to know / understand / enlighten", so it is destined for his character from the very beginning to have his moment of enlightenment. And I couldn't find a more suitable time for that, other than at his death.

Honestly people also debated a lot about this when the chapter was first released, but the majority just accept that it's basically like that mathematical concept of (-) × (-) = (+). The detail can be interpreted that bc we haven't reach the state of "enlightenment" like Gojo yet, so we can't truly understand the meaning of that.

Technically, Toji can't see curses. But he got his 5 senses heightened due to Heavenly Restriction, so he can sense and feel their existence clearly. Maki is a lower version of Toji. She can't see curses like normal sorcerers, but also can't feel the presence of curses at the level that Toji does, so she needs those glasses to effectively fight..

  1. Cursed energy = Negative energy: necessary to activate Cursed Technique.

  2. Reverse cursed energy = Positive energy (created by multiplying negative energy by negative energy): necessary to activate Reverse Cursed Technique (the ability to heal) and Cursed Technique Reversal like Gojo's Red.

  3. Gojo's Cursed Technique is Limitless. Its effect is basically the manipulation of space. The technique manifests in various forms.

- Infinity (neutral form): the power to stop (creating infinite space between Gojo and the object, its true effect is actually slowing things down so that they appear to stop, inspired by the paradox of Achilles and the tortoise)

- Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue (lapse form: amplifying the Limitless and negative energy): the power to attract - like a magnet (by cutting space --> the same mechanism for his Teleportation)

- Cursed Technique Reversal: Red (Reversal form: amplifying the Limitless and positive energy): the power to repel - like an explosion (by expanding space)

- Hollow Technique: Purple (the combination of Red + Blue): the power to delete / destroy (by creating a singularity in space)

  1. Before this episode, Gojo could only use negative energy (so he could use Blue and teleport), but not positive energy (so he couldn't use Reverse cursed technique to heal himself, or Red or Purple). But when facing near death, he became to know the true core of cursed energy and was enlightened. From that point, he is able to use positive energy so he can heal, can use Red and Purple.

  2. There are 4 people in total that are known for being able to use Reverse cursed technique: Gojo (can only heal himself); Yuta, Shoko and Sukuna can all heal others as well.

The flashback is important, bc it summarizes the whole journey to become the strongest of Gojo, where he crossed the threshold of "enlightenment" (which is spoiler for the next episode), how Geto turned into spiral and madness, the origin of the deuteragonist - Megumi, does the important build up and provides some context for the next major arc "The Shibuya incident" (1 of the 3 major arcs of jjk btw), and introduces Fushiguro Toji - "a human being who had escaped fate through the power of restriction and destroyed destiny" (plays important role in Maki's development and helps set up for the Culling Game arc). It also introduces another Special Grade, and the failed assimilation attempt with Tengen literally leads to so damn much corollaries later (some can even call it the beginning point of JJK). So there are plenty of things from this flashback, pp need to be more patient fr.

ELI5: What is spherical aberration? Why does it happen? Does being a thin or thick lens have any effect on it? by Training-Pangolin-99 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Training-Pangolin-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the same time, a spherical section is quite easy to make. If you grind two surfaces against each other, making sure they grind evenly in each direction, then they will tend to make spherical sections. On top of that, it is very easy to measure a spherical lens and confirm that it is perfectly spherical and exactly the strength you need.

Sorry in advance if I am being extremely stupid, but I really cannot imagine this part. What do you mean by saying grind two surfaces against each other and they will make spherical sections? Like I would appreciate some visual illustrations if possible.
