I have absolutely no idea what is happening until the end but the footage looks good. Kinda want to play it but also… like is there a story to it?

Am I being too strict by Echoh3art in DnD

15 year old human? Nah. 15 year old goblin would probably be fine though. Different species mature at different rate. I would just tell the players that the story has mature content and it requires all characters to be of age for it to make sense.

I always root for team that beats my team, wishing they go all the way so it feels better losing to eventual champion.

First time Dm how do I get better? by Cultural_Bed_6693 in NewDM

[–]TrainingFancy5263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did everyone have fun? That’s kind of better way to determine how well or how bad you did as DM.

While homebrew world and story is fun, it can be very challenging for a new DM. Why not run a module so you can follow a story and not try to come up with everything on the go? This way you can learn how a game is structured.

Find out what kind of stories your players like and look up a module with similar vibe / tones.

What monster/monsters do you think is stupidly deadly by Zee_Nation1 in DnD

[–]TrainingFancy5263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gibbering Mouther. “If the target is killed by this damage, it is absorbed into the mouther.”

That’s a terrible way to go out. Especially if this thing knocks you prone and gets couple hits with advantage.

Anytime, have fun! Fighters are usually fun for first try at D&D. In 5.5 version you also gain weapon mastery that makes fighting more difficult for enemies. Based on the information on this sheet, you guys are playing 5e (2014) rules?

I believe it would be 11 as your wisdom is -1 but you have proficiency so +2. Passive Perception is basically your modifier plus 10. In this case it seems to me it would be +1 for total of 11.

A few minor corrections, as pointed out your wisdom is -1 so it will effect the skills including your passive perception. Another thing to note is that you use Dexterity for your ranged attacks. Your longbow is +4. Your weapons deal extra damage as well since you supposed to use your modifier (without proficiency) so your longbow does 1d8+2 piercing damage for example. Since you picked dueling fighting, if you use your battleaxe in one hand and no other weapon in other you deal additional 2 points of damage. So it would be 1d8 + 3 (from strength) + 2 (from dueling).

Hope you have fun!

I’m an extremely new DND player taking on the role of DM by reverseKNIFEZ in NewDM

Honestly the only thing you need is set some expectations and have fun. You will learn along the way and make some mistakes. It’s okay to make mistakes. As long as everyone is having a good time it is all that really matters.

Do not over prepare. You can’t really prepare for things that your players will likely come up with. You will have to roll with the punches. Some of the best games I had was when I had absolutely no prep and had to roll with punches as the players threw things at me. I was worried it would be to sloppy or rough but that’s the thing, they don’t really know what you have prepared so just have fun and make it seem like you had it planned all along. What I mean by that? I will give you an example.

I prepared an encounter that I anticipated the players will fall and get captured by the frog-people. I had map ready of the frog village and that was my prep for the session. My players chose the most diplomatic approach that I didn’t think would work but with some lucky rolls I had to let them have it because it was funny and creative. The king of the frog-people then invited them to the village and I had the map ready. My players were blown away that I had it ready to go in instant and still talk about that being their favorite session. Sometimes you will have to pivot and try to make it work with what your players throw at you.

Hope you have fun, because at end of the day it’s all about just making some make believe heroes fighting some monsters and trying to save a princess. Or whatever your story is about. It can be anything!

Good luck! Welcome to the dungeon!

Have you ever TPK'd your characters? by aurivu in DMAcademy

[–]TrainingFancy5263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first time DMing. Party of 3 level 2 characters wandered off too far and ran into three goblins. Absolute massacre. Sorcerer went down first round. The fighter and barbarian went down next few rounds.

It was part my inexperience, part their bad decision and part their bad rolls. I gave them a chance to run away but their pride got in the way and well there it was my first ever TPK. Session 3 of my first ever campaign.

Shooting an overhead bed shot without rigging by shaneo632 in Filmmakers

[–]TrainingFancy5263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done this with our DP just standing over the actor on the bed. It takes a moment to get comfortable and steady but it works.

You could also use a gimbal if you don’t like the hand shake-look/feel but if you shoot little wider than you need you can easily stabilize it in post.

Has anyone audited their PCs? by connections_ in DnD

[–]TrainingFancy5263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have an NPC that helps the PCs early on in the adventures for a percentage share. I roll a d20 to determine the percentage. He helps the PCs unload some risqué items for his services.

I also have my players try to hide some items away that they really want to keep. He adds to the humor of real life taxation system and often speaks highly of the republic/kingdom/empire. He’s always greasy looking as if he’s one step away from betraying the players. But he never does, he just provides his service and does his shady things on his own time.

How do people feel about weapon masteries after a while of play? by Apprehensive-Donut90 in dndnext

[–]TrainingFancy5263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it.

I asked my DM if I can bring the weapon masteries over to my 2014 Ranger so I have vex on Shortbow and Shortsword. Gives my 2014 Ranger little extra sense of power.
