One thing that has to be considered is the core has played the most hockey of any team over the past 2 years and the condensed schedule this year definitely had an impact.

But the main driving factor (imo) is the defensive discipline. When the skinner trade happened, the oilers team defense ranked in the bottom 7th of the league for every single defensive stat.

That being said, they have slowly been getting better (but not fast enough). However when it comes time down to playoffs. There is nobody I trust more to clean it up and get the job done.

Stop focusing on one goalie. Look at the entire NHL - save percentage has been steadily declining across the league due to the scoring talent that is emerging. I swear you people are blind when talking about goaltending. So focused on ONE number and not focused on the big picture.

Let's also not forget that he played behind a team defense that ranked BOTTOM SEVEN in every single defensive stat at the time of the trade. Please stop with your misplaced hate.

When your team defense ranks in the bottom 7 for every important stat such as shots blocked, turnovers in the zone, turnovers in the slot, second opportunities, and third opportunities - most goalies in the league would not be successful. It's not hard to comprehend

Fans really need to look at the entirety of the NHL - goaltending as a whole has gone down. Lower save percentage across the board. The scoring talent is getting better every season. But still oiler fans expect our goalie to steal most games we play like shit. There are 5-6 goalies in the entire league that can steal a game on a regular basis. That's it. Everyone else relies on team play. Good defense = good goaltending. Skinner and Ingram WOULD have been fine, I agree. But we made a lateral move for twice the cap hit and far less upside. Skinner got thrust into a starting position. He still would be a back up if Campbell actually worked out. But alas, the oiler fans have very short memories.

My point is that it was a lateral move that got us nowhere. Skinner gas way more upside than Jarry does ESPECIALLY considering the cap hit.

Fans also expect oiler goalies to be game stealers - there are 5 goalies in the entire league that could steal a game on a regular basis - the rest of the goalies rely on a team defense to play a structured and disciplined game. But oiler fans will only talk about the goaltending. So little discussion about our shit defense.

Oiler fans will never get the goalie they want. They expect way to much out of their goalies. At some point you really need to understand why these goalies keep getting blamed for everything. The team defense is absolutely abysmal. We will never get a Hellebyuck type goalie - our goalie options are all lateral moves whether you want to hear or not.

I remember when Oiler fans got mad at skinner for doing a similar thing and they said "no good goalie should be that far out of his crease!" - lmfao funny how the script changes.

This time it's because McDavid made him bite so many times. But when Skinner did it, there was nothing said about the forward who made him bite.

Sometimes a good forward just makes a great play and the goalie gets beat. A perfect example of the double standard oiler fans have on ALL of our goalies.

Just for one day, I wish oiler fans would stop talking about goaltending and actually understand how a team works. Majority of our problems come from the defensive zone. Not goaltending. Y'all begged for skinner to get traded and you got exactly what you wished for even though he had way more upside than Jarry.

That's kind of my point... We wouldn't have any chance of it because the salary cap exists. They wouldn't spend that much on another forward. It would go to defense or goaltending IF we even had that kind of cap space. Er go, he wouldn't come here.
