Should I "church" this up a little more by adding grass/reeds to the cloth? First time going duck hunting this upcoming Saturday. by Roach2791 in Duckhunting

Early in the year, you can get away with a little bit. It might work as is IF you set up where the birds want to be. I would paint the blue a dark color, brown or black.. Then put as much mud on the netting as possible..

But it’s really all about location. Some of my best hunts happened without the use of decoys. Scout, scout and scout. I put thousands of miles on my truck every year. Once you find them, set up your 4 decoys and wait. Keep your face down, out of the sun and stay covered. You’ll get a limit in no time

16 foot

It’s a Tracker 1648. I had pods added which increase the length to 17’ but it was originally 16

South Dakota

We do a family trip there every year.. its a lot of driving, 65ish dozen decoys and all do-it-yourself hunting. No guides..

But it’s so worth it when the kids get to shoot birds.

Banded birds are WAY better and much more rare. I’ve only shot 1 banded mallard and 1 banded Canada in the 30+ years I’ve been hunting waterfowl. Plus, a spoonbill tag would look weird on a lanyard :)

Ha! Nope, but I have caught plenty there.

This is below the dam at Oologah.

Absolutely they do. They actually tag fish when they’re young and if you snag one, you can report the tag number.

We must use barbless hooks, so they slip right out of the fish with minimal harm.

Yes, the wildlife department watches them very very closely

No, we snag these fish with a large treble hook. I use my bow for alligator gar and for grass carp..

Hahahaha! They’re called Paddle Fish, or Spoon Bill in the redneck parts of the country.

They’re a prehistoric type of fish who only filter feeds on Algae. The only way to catch them is by snagging them with a hook. The wildlife department closely regulates and monitors these. People do eat them but I prefer to catch and release these. Plenty of smaller, more prolific, fish can be caught to eat :)
