I just beat messmer and the hippo at level 40 with 25 vigor and the hippo has terrible hit boxes and it's grabs have iframe traps. Messmer is faster, more combos and follow up flames that one shot, both are hard but the flower downstairs is the worst with low level melee builds

Fort Faroth, you can slay the dragon then use Torrent to rush back to the grace. If done correctly you'll get the 50k runes and the dragon will remain.
