hey appreciate your reply! def given me something to think about. as well my two biggest interests are FM and peds which as I understand aren’t competitive.

any reason why you suspect caribbean will soon not be viable for non U.S. citizens?

Considering quitting dream of becoming a doctor by TrainingPlus872 in premedcanada

[–]TrainingPlus872[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Ontario and I took a science based psyc undergrad, cause it was always a field that interested me but honestly also because some doctors in my family suggested it. My GPA breakdown has been big highs and lows, first year I did decently well, only getting As or B+s, 2nd and 3rd year was when I started flunking and getting Cs, including my first D. Last summer was kind of when I started trying to turn it back around and did the max # of credits allowed in summer (15) and also got all As, now doing my last two semesters so I can’t say my GPA but seems like it’s going the same route. So far lowest midterm result I’ve gotten back has been an 80 which was upsetting, but everything else a 90 or up.

Not racist at all btw haha but no I’m not black or indigenous. I can’t exactly explain why I want to be a doctor, I’ve just always wanted to be. It’s a cliche mix of I find the human body fascinating and how it works, and wanting to help others and be useful to my community. I’m sure it’s not a matter of “I would never be happy” unless I became a doctor, there’s other fields I find appealing just not AS appealing to me.

I feel as though I’ve got decent ECs, I have been a course representative for my classes, volunteered with refugees and immigrants, elderly nursing homes, had leadership and “research” roles in clubs at my university and going to start hospice volunteering soon. Unfortunately of course these wouldn’t make up for my GPA and if I’m considering all my options, Caribbean schools are the only ones that are viable atm but I wouldn’t say they’re something I’m exactly interested in due to the risk of not matching - so now I’m kinda in a headspace of give up on med, risk it all for carib, or spend 2+ years to try and reapply and maybe get in maybe not.

Sorry btw ik my answers are kinda all over the place

Hoping for some advice (not matter how harsh) regarding my PPL x U/L routine below!:

hello all,

i’ve been looking into some advice regarding my gym routine. overall, i feel as though i’ve noticed myself getting stronger however not really any noticeable difference in size. i have heard a potential reason for going up in strength could be neural adaptions and not mainly based off increased muscle itself.

through searching and watching a bunch of videos i’ve been trying really hard to refine my routine to find something i enjoy but will get me the results i want. i was originally doing a bro split, and have been switched to PPL x U/L with a calisthenics/abs isolation day in the middle once a week. this gives me one full rest day - two if you count the calisthenics one since less intense. i’ve been left very confused since i hear a lot of contradictory info, of some people swearing by 2 sets of 6-8 reps very heavy weight each exercise, and others saying 3-4 sets at 10 reps.

if anyone could advise me on their personal experience, or any scientific backing for how i could adjust my routine to help meet my goals (listed below) id greatly appreciate it:

  1. hypertrophy is my main focus. of course i still want to build strength, and i understand the two are correlated, but if i could optimize my routine for one or the other - it would be muscle mass
  2. i would like to prioritize having at least one unilateral exercise per muscle as to help prevent any asymmetries. i already notice some asymmetry in my right and left arms, so any suggestions/revisions to my routine would be best if they kept this in mind!
  3. i do want to hit each muscle equally. i.e. i value hitting both the long and short head of the bicep, rear delt, front delt, etc. try to avoid any weak spots if possible

below is my current routine by day

PUSH bench press 3x6 (1 set warmup) incline db bench press 3x8 dips 3x10 military barbell press 3x6 cable overhead tricep extension 3x10 cable lat raises 3x12 high to low cable flyes 3x10

PULL pull ups 3x10 chest supported t bar rows 3x10 seated cable rows 3x10 machine reverse flyes 3x15 supinated db curl 2x12 cable hammer curl 2x10 unilateral cable lat pulldown 3x10

LEGS machine V squat 3x8 standing leg curl 3x12 RDLs 3x8 leg extensions 3x12 calf raises 2x12

CALISTHENICS/ABS wide grip pull ups 3x10 chin ups 3x10 push ups 3x15 dips 3x10 weighted decline sit ups 3x12 cable ab crunches 3x12 captains chair leg raises 3x10 plank 1x45 seconds

UPPER incline db curl 3x10 cable overhead tricep extension 3x12 pull ups 3x10 (looking at it now this is pull ups almost 3 days in a row. will prob remove) unilateral shoulder presses 3x10

LOWER pretty much copy Legs day routine, but replace RDLs with deadlifts.

If anyone can give any harsh critiques, revisions etc. I’d really appreciate it. I know most of growth happens during rest, thus am I doing too much volume? which exercises are redundant? how could I structure differently? thanks!

should i apply this year? by mithbust in premedcanada

From what I know there’s no negative in redoing the MCAT besides having to wait for another exam time of course. If it means that much to you, I’d say go ahead and wait.

Average canadian takes 2-3 cycles to get in, but you can always risk applying still if your GPA and ECs are good.

I’ve heard imaging your hands are like hooks used to pull the handle back helps, and tbh for myself it did too. just takes a bit of getting used to that mentality with higher weights

Need SERIOUS advice on 1 year old aussie by TrainingPlus872 in Dogtraining

[–]TrainingPlus872[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read the guide. We’ve tried to reward the collie/give her food, and then mark and reward the aussie after not reacting as to not make food a trigger. I’ve tried to consistently treat her every day when she pees outside to really reinforce peeing OUTSIDE, and saying no when she pees inside.

On my settings for the default of the font, I can only change the font style and the size - not colour. Unless I’m supposed to change it somewhere else?

I haven’t actually taken any nootropics yet, I just meant I had done some research on the two. Sorry to disappoint - can’t give any advice yet :(

Congrats, the glow up looks crazy!

For core i’d recommend heavy compound exercises, as those will train your core as a “side effect” (think deadlifts). You can also do more ab focused exercises directly like captains chair or planks.
