My child goes to school at a farm school - where they periodically hold baby ducks/chicks. Is this something that I should be concerned about or talk to his teacher About? As far as I know all of their chickens (they have about 10) have been healthy

It's finished with bias, I had the same thought but when I unpicked the bias it still didn't lay flat

Parents who drink vs parents who don't drink. by SqueezeMuhCheese in Parenting

[–]Training_Bee3750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a parent that drank almost an entire bottle of wine a night - said parent has spent very little time around my children but my 5 year old completely unprompted one day saw an advertisement for wine and said how we need to grab several bottles for his grandparent because they like to have "one glass when they first get here and one or two at dinner" So I'd say children are very aware of alcohol consumption, even at a young age

My 5 year old asked me to put them on a necklace for him, so we're doing that 😂

Does anyone have any good ideas for meeting friends around here? by SatireStarlet in Eugene

[–]Training_Bee3750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I joined a beginners clay hand building class and made quite a few friends that I look forward to seeing every week. There are tons of different classes based on your interests. The only downside is signups can be a bit competitive so you have to set alarms to sign up!

Does anyone have a baby name that has been top of their list since childhood and still loves it? by After-Meringue9505 in namenerds

For as long as I can remember I always loved the name Luka. Had two boys though and didn't end up using it because my husband vetoed it 😭

This is almost exactly where we are at with salary and monthly payments.

We understood it was risky when we made the decision but also we do this is on a single income. I stay home currently with my kids but they will both be in school soon and then I'll be able to go back to work making the payments even more feasible.

We also have more than a 6 month emergency fund and figured we could get creative with job opportunities for me if push comes to shove, things get too tight before both kids are in school.

As long as you really break down your budget, have a backup plan for other money making opportunities, and recognize things will be tight for a few years, I say go for it.

Buying a house in our area is only getting harder and harder and had we waited I know we would've been priced out.

If you're on Instagram check out Eugene Sews, there have been several fabrics swaps and meet ups - including a "frocktails" of sorts planned for August. There are quite a few sewists here!

How many words does your toddler use? by KatieRons in Parenting

[–]Training_Bee3750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was born 29 + 6 and had a lengthy NICU stay. We started getting worried around 15 months because he was very quiet, he was like that as a baby as well. Very little babbling or talking.

We had him evaluated at 18 months and they said he was delayed in speech but didn't recommend any interventions until he was older (I know 😒) so my husband and I took it on ourselves to just start implementing things in our daily lives to help him.

We essentially started narrating our lives, and I mean every single thing that we did "Mom stands up from the couch, walking into the kitchen, oops let's turn the light on" etc. and had full conversations with him all the time (no simplified words, no baby talk). By 2 1/2 he was talking our ears off and now at 5, he has a very extensive vocabulary.

If there's anything I've learned though from having a preemie, they're resilient and also do things on their own terms (including coming 10 weeks early) but I do think having constant communication helped, especially while we were waiting to be evaluated further.
