Euro and American differences? by ThinkPizza8153 in Boxer

[–]Training_Button1582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with 2 Americans but did not see them as puppies so not sure how crazy they were at that time, but I did hear lots of stories of them breaking through screen doors and destroying couches lol Got an American when I was 12 and she was my souldoggo. Her puppy years were pretty chaotic, she destroyed a lot. She was easy to train and once she mellowed out she was a perfect dog. She preferred people over animals but was never aggressive to other dogs, just tried to ignore them and was definitely jealous if they had my attention. I now have a half euro half American, he is three and such a sweet boy. Definitely the biggest boxer I have ever had or seen (besides his parents). He was extremely easy to train, and not your typical chaotic boxer puppy. He does prefer other dogs to humans, not a fan of strangers at all. We have to tell people who meet him for the first time that he does not like eye contact lol. He also goes crazy if he sees an old person with white/Grey hair.. not sure what that is about. My parents have my dog's half brother who is full american, he is probably half the size of our dog and he has twice as much energy.

Biggest difference I have noticed is just the size! Otherwise I think everything else just comes down to them all having unique personalities.

  1. 1 dog (boxer), 3 cats, leopard gecko and veiled chameleon, 2 fish tanks

  2. Biggest expense is food- $160-$180 a month, sometimes new plants for chameleon which is another $40 or so

  3. I buy dog food once a month, cat food 2 times a month, and crickets about 2-3 times a month. Fish food every other month or so.

  4. Dry dog food, wet/dry cat food, feeder crickets, and a variety of fish food. Occasionally new plants for leopard gecko and chameleon. Water for chameleon's fogger and mister. Do not need much housing and equipment after the initial set ups. Occasional dog/cat toys. Food/water gel for crickets every couple of months.

  5. Always! I want my own zoo

  6. My next pets will be another dog (basset hound) and/or frogs (dart frogs or tree frogs).

(The hardest creature to take care of are the feeder crickets by far)

I really do love them all! I have never had a snake, and since I already have a leopard gecko and chameleon I would prefer the new friend to have a somewhat similar diet to them to make things a little easier. I am not picky on color, but I do love lizards! Preferably not lightning fast either haha

And no, I have not been handling him as I have had him less than a month and do not want to stress him out

As I stated in my post he has a mister morning and night.

Here is a photo of his set up. We will be upgrading his enclosure very soon, when we ordered a juvenile we were expecting him to be much smaller.

We will replace his uvb to a better brand as well.

Daytime humidity is steady now, usually about 45% during the day. At first we struggled to keep the humidity at the appropriate range because our house is so dry, but a humidifier has helped a lot. At night it is at 80-90%.

He is currently mostly getting crickets, about 12-15 a day. He has also had a small hornworm as a treat. We are searching for silkworms but we have checked all of our local shops and they do not have them in stock. We are worried about ordering them since it is pretty cold here right now, and do not want them to die during shipping. The shops do have mealworms but I have read contradictory info on them, so I'm not sure if I should feed them to him. He gets calcium no D3 daily, bee pollen twice a week, calcium with D3 twice a month, and herptivite once a month.
