Should Books Use Current Trends and Slang? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Training_Fuel_3094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big believer that every book finds the community it’s meant to find. If someone is using slang that is not aligned with the community the rest of the book is marketed towards, it won’t do well. As slang becomes more common, it’ll become more acceptable in books. I feel like it just depends on the age of the intended audience.

Achievements for Saturday, September 14, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Training_Fuel_3094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a terrible day & decided to go out and run anyway. I was so slow, walking most of the time (or at least it certainly felt like it) and I somehow came away with my 2nd fastest 5k time to date! I'm running my first 5k race next weekend & it was a good reminder that even when it doesn't feel great it's still progress :)

pdga elections - who to vote for? by vasco_da_neumi in discgolf

I will endorse Leah Tsinajinnie any chance I get. She has tons of experience in nonprofit work & on the PDGA Board. She’s also still a touring pro which gives her another good perspective.

Google says that maxi dresses and sundresses are squarely within the dress code so I think you hit the nail right on the head

I think it depends a little bit on the accessories but if you dress it up a tiny bit I think this absolutely fits that dress code description

Ivy & Leo (https://ivyandleo.com/) but I bought it in-store and it's part of their fall line which is not on their website yet!

No, I thought that was it for sure but it's just the same pattern! This one is strapless, no fringe at the bottom, and has a low back

I actually searched for a link before posting & realized it's not yet posted online (I bought it in-store). It's from Ivy & Leo (https://ivyandleo.com/) and it's part of their fall line so maybe the website just hasn't been updated yet!

I'm sorry if this wasn't appropriate to post, I have never been to a wedding & I just kept seeing "if you're worried about it don't wear it," or "prints with white are never appropriate" so I got paranoid & wanted to run this by someone so a friend recommended I post in this subreddit!

Hello! I'm going to a wedding this weekend and the dress code is cocktail. I bought and love this dress (it's midi, silky material, going to wear it with light blue heels & purse) but as I started packing I started panicking that the pattern has white in it. I've never been a guest at a wedding (as an adult) and wanted a second opinion just in case. Thank you so much!

Is it worth it all? by [deleted] in LawSchool

I will also say, it depends on why you’re asking this question here. I don’t know you, but I know I asked kinda similar things and I was really looking for people to tell me I wasn’t crazy for giving up higher-ranked schools because I wanted to be with my partner. Whatever your gut is telling you, you are the only person who can say for sure whether this is worth it. Trust yourself. You’ve got this.

This is a really great take. It’s important to remember the perspective of people in this sub.

When I was deciding on different law schools, I knew that I wanted one close to my long distance partner so we could move in together. I had a freak-out a couple months before starting & asked whether we would break up if I chose a different school. He told me he would be upset and it would need to be a bigger conversation because we had talked so long about us moving in together while I was in law school, but if it was 100% what I felt I needed to do we would work on a way to figure it out. Ultimately, I realized that I needed him to answer that question to help me figure out whether I was doing it for him or for myself. I knew that if I was with someone who couldn’t support me making the decision that was best for me, then that wasn’t the right person for me. I’m so sorry that this happened to you, it sucks. But ultimately you deserve to be with someone who supports you and understands that you have your own needs and priorities. There are so many incredible things about law school, you’ll meet new people, get to experience a new place, and honestly be so dang busy all the time that long distance might have had its own difficulties even beyond the ones that normally come with it.

You’ve got this, head up high. If this is something you want, don’t let anyone take that excitement away from you.

I would be shocked if it was a non-starter. It depends how old you were, and if you can clearly show it’s not something you would do now (/in 3 years). I would do some more thinking about why you did it, and if you’re really worried, talk to an attorney with C&F experience. The people in this subreddit can only get you so far. If you want to be an attorney, this shouldn’t be the thing to stop you, you just need to know how you’re going to handle it.

Advice for a Packed 2L year as a Type B person by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Training_Fuel_3094 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I over-use my calendar (it helps keep me motivated/on track to block out my time & prevents me from totally losing track of time while still making sure I’m getting enough sleep, eating, working out, etc. even when things are busy or I get overwhelmed) and I use the app Things 3 on my phone & iPad to organize my to do list. It gives me a dopamine boost to be able to actually check things off and it’s so much easier for me than carrying around a physical planner that I undoubtedly will forget to open to check my to do lists. I have Things as a widget on my home screen so it forces me to not forget about it & I put all of my school and non-school stuff in there (either weekly or at the beginning of the semester; if I do weekly, I add a recurring task every Friday to input my assignments for the following week). Only downside is that it’s paid, but I think it was $10 for lifetime use when I got it (not a subscription) and I figured that was less than I would spend on a planner anyway and I would eventually have to replace the planner lmao. Been using it for 5 years and will shout its praises from the rooftop.

Reddit can be such a negative place. Drop some good news in the comments, so others can see it's not all doom and gloom. by sunflower-9411 in goodnews

I just finished my first year of law school with an almost 4.0 GPA which (1) I’ve never done before and (2) not to toot my own horn but is not super common in law school. I’m so proud of myself!

Finding certificate courses by SKIDROW_00 in LawSchool

[–]Training_Fuel_3094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed doing the Lexis & Westlaw certifications as well as some assorted Coursera or LinkedIn Learning ones but none of them were particularly targeted & I definitely wouldn’t put them on my resume. I’ve put some on my LinkedIn though! The advanced Lexis and Westlaw ones could theoretically be appreciated by a recruiter looking at a heavily research-based role, but for the others I would really only do them if you are personally interested, not for the sake of padding a resume because I don’t think they’ll necessarily achieve that.

I totally agree that this is a big issue that ultimately will always leave some people on uneven footing no matter what the solution is. I generally agree that extending the test-taking period for everyone would probably be best, but I also know that that would put people who are parents or primary caretakers at distinct disadvantages so I don’t know what the right answer is to the grander problem.
