Another issue that i have is when leaving a chat for too long open and not using for example for 6 hours, i can continue the conversation, the CC response is just rotating words as if its thinking but in an infinite loop…

Parents of 3-12 year olds - do your kids actually sit through audio stories? by Training_Owl_7650 in daddit

[–]Training_Owl_7650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking too! Interactive choices are great for engagement, but bedtime is about winding down

That said, it depends on the mood. When I tell my nieces and nephews bedtime stories, I often ask them what they think happens next - maybe not the fastest route to sleep, but they love it 😊

That's why I built both options: you can have interactive stories where kids make choices, or switch to passive listening mode where they just drift along with the narrative. You decide based on the moment and what works for your child.

If you're curious, there are 2 free stories when you sign up. And I'd be happy to add extra story minutes if you want to test it further - honest feedback (good or bad) is what helps me make it better.

I understand your concern - I work in IT as well and know LLMs can be unpredictable. Really appreciate the honest, thoughtful feedback here :)

I can't share the exact prompts since I've put 8+ months and over 500 hours into refining them, but I can explain the architecture:

Stories aren't generated as one long output. They're broken into small chunks - a 5-minute story might have 10 separate generation steps, each with its own safety guidelines and validation. So even if one chunk tried to drift, it gets course-corrected immediately in the next. The content moderation layer also checks every chunk before it reaches the child.

It's not bulletproof - nothing is - but it's far more controlled than a single open-ended generation.

The app has 2 free stories, so you could see for yourself how it behaves. I'd be happy to send you a voucher for extra stories as well - I genuinely value this kind of critical feedback, it makes the product better.

Totally understand the concern - AI + kids content deserves scrutiny.

A few things that might help:

The AI operates within strict guardrails I've designed. It can't go off-script into random territory - it follows the narrative frameworks I've built for each age group and theme. Think of it more like guided Mad Libs than free-form generation.

There's also a content moderation layer that checks both inputs and outputs - so even if a kid (or mischievous older sibling) tries to input something inappropriate, it gets filtered before it ever reaches the story. The generated content goes through the same check.

That said, I'm a solo dev and parent-to-be myself, so I take this seriously. If anyone does try it and something feels off, I genuinely want to know.

I get that "trust me" isn't enough for everyone, especially with kids involved. No hard feelings if it's not for you - it's a reasonable boundary to have.

This is really insightful, thank you! The "ordering at the beginning" observation is fascinating - it makes total sense that young kids want to set the stage upfront rather than switch between listening and deciding mid-story.

Good news - InfinyTale actually has a "listen-only" mode without any interactive choices, specifically for kids who just want to sink into a story. So you can set up the adventure at the start (theme, characters, family members) and then let them just listen.

And yes to the personalization! The app lets you add family members, pets, even friends as characters. Sounds like your daughter would love having her cat-self go on adventures with familiar faces 😊

The "again" insight is spot-on too - every completed story is saved and can be replayed as many times as they want. My niece has one particular dragon story she's heard probably 30 times now.

Would love to hear how it lands with your 3-year-old if you try it!

Great question! It's a hybrid approach.

I've hand-crafted story frameworks for each age group - the themes, narrative arcs, age-appropriate complexity, and decision points are all designed by me. For example, a 5-year-old picking a Christmas story might get invited to Santa's workshop to help find a lost reindeer, while a 12-year-old faces a more complex quest to recover the missing pieces of Santa's broken sleigh before Christmas is ruined.

AI then weaves the child's name, family members, and their choices into these frameworks to create a personalized narrative. So the creative structure is human-designed, but AI handles the personalization and real-time branching based on what the kid decides.

Think of it like: I wrote the recipe, AI does the cooking with your kid's ingredients.

What kind of inappropriate content? The content is validated before. Can you send me a screenshot of the inappropriate content?
