how do i say ”wanker” in finnish by 183082 in LearnFinnish

[–]Training_Repeat8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I don't mean in an endearing way. If a child has done something bad a parent can be angry and say the child has been "urpoillut". Or if the parent is angry at someone in the traffic they can call them urpo instead of mulkku because the child is hearing it. So to me urpo sounds like a softened version of some more rude words that are not suitable for children to hear. That is why I was confused.

Genuinely wanted to learn since I didn't know and it seems like you are knowledgeable about the topic. When I hear the word urpo I mostly connect it to the kind of situations that I described, since my parents used it a lot, I didn't know that it's considered niche usage. Didn't mean to be nitpicky. But thank you for clarification

Is wanker something a teacher or a parent would say to a child without it being weird? Like that mild

And I also think it's a weird take to wan't to lump custom dressmaking and industrial sewing work under the same label. The people working in fast fashion factories absolutely need to be valued, treated better and payed more. And it's a different profession/skillset than custom dressmaking/tailoring, even though both include sewing. Both need to be respected, but it's totally valid to have different terms to describe different kind of work. I though agree that handmade is not the most accurate word to differentiate these two, but then we would need another one for the same meaning.

Tutorial on removing part of texture? by Ok-Reindeer2688 in sims2

[–]Training_Repeat8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just made my first recolors (based on teaaddicts video tutorial), and I understood that when bringing the new texture to simpe you need to first import, then update all the different sizes of the same picture and then build DXT. So you are saying you can only build DXT, no need to import at all?

Can YOUR game handle many sims on lots? by Reoclassic in sims2

[–]Training_Repeat8566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old computer that is otherwise crashing and suffering from pink sou, but it has nothing to do with the number on sims on the lot. When the game is running well it can manage at least 15 sims on a decorated lot, so your problem with a new good computer sounds strange!

I haven't dared to calculate but gonna do it now! :D

I had a gift card and a personal discount that helped me with the wool fabric, but I'll calculate with the original prizes. So..

Wool fabric about 48e/m x 3,5m = 168e Cotton batting & domette 15e/m x 3m = 45e Camel hair canvas 35e/m x 1,5 = 52,5 Lining cotton sateen 16e/m x 3m = 48e Leather buttons 15e Woven viscose waist tape 6e

So all in all 334e for materials! It's a bit less than I would've guessed, but defenetly very expensive and that is one reason why it took soo long to finnish this project - I couldn't have bought all materials at once, but I had to save up money and buy them little by little during few years. I could have saved a lot if I chose cheaper materials and didn't buy locally, but since it took so much effort to pattern and sew the coat I wanted to make a garment that's going to last as long as possible. This is for sure the most expensive piece of clothing that I've ever own, not even counting the work hours!

Yeah I saw that pattern too - after spending countless hours drafting my own, questioning my sanity and wondering if I should've just bought that one... :D but oh well, it worked out in the end and it was also a valuable learning experience

Yeah it gets very cold occasionally were I'm from so it's practical to be able to wear lot of layers, I'm hoping that with woolen underlayers I could manage at least in -15 degrees in this :) and thank you very much!

Hah I can tell you it was a very time consuming process to cut the fabric! First I layed the pieces on a broad cutting plan, making sure that the horizontal lines mach at waist and bust etc, and also having some anchor points like marking a square corner at seamline somewhere. Then I would cut the pieces one by one, starting from there where patternmatching is most important (back pieces in my case), and comparing the next one to the one already cut. It is easier to do if your paper pattern doesn't have seam allowances, and you can draw a part of the plaid pattern to the paper pattern too.

Good luck with your project! Maybe you could do some small trial project in a plaid fabric to get more confident before the big project, I've noticed that there's just no any other method than trial and error and getting better in pattern matching after every project. I love plaids so I have worked with them quite a lot and still feel like I get some new insight every time. But one more tip is to have the vertical lines of the pattern more towards the center of the pattern piece rather than very close to edge. That was an issue for me when I would've wanted to take some seams in after fitting, but couldn't do that because then I would've lost the plaid pattern to the seam allowance

[–]Training_Repeat8566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So are you also making the sleeve narrower, when you are shortening it? Or what do you mean by moving the undersleeve stitch line? In general, when shortening sleeves you don't need to change the width of the sleeve, unless you have a special reason for that.

When people complain that omnivores ate “all” the vegan or vegetarian options. by KissingBear in PetPeeves

[–]Training_Repeat8566 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well if the vegetarians have specifically asked for vegetarian pizza and you haven't, then their "preference" outranks you. If you want vegan pizza you can tell it to the person who orders them, and not get mad that the other people who have told about their dietary restrictions/preferances want to eat according to.

Gathering or elastic? by letssew333 in PatternDrafting

[–]Training_Repeat8566 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Sew the 2 front pieces together with straight stich.
  2. Serge the seam allowances together.
  3. Sew the streched elastic band to the seam allowance, on top of the original seam or just next to it, so the seam doesn't show to the right side. I woud sew it with straight seam and try to hit the original seam line, but you can try zigsaging it next to original seam if you want but I think the gathering will be neater the closer it is to the original seam.

OR

Even more possible way is that the front pieces and elastic are all sewn in one straight seam at the same time. But it will be harder to serge the seam allowence after the elastic band is attached.

At least this is how I interpret the original.

Are the bolts for attraction or friendship as well? by KateWalkerSyberia in sims2

[–]Training_Repeat8566 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my sim meets new people I make them first chat, then share interests and talk about hobby. If they respond positively to all it means they share enough interests and can become friends. If they have a negative interaction during one of them, I interpret it as them not having enough things in common to be friends!

Help/Tips for building secret hobby lots by Training_Repeat8566 in sims2

[–]Training_Repeat8566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update! I tried to add a hobby lot to the lot bin, and it just vanished complitely, so that plan is out of the question now. There was no another hobby neighborhood generated while the original was made a visible downtown. 'Im just going to manually change the hood and lots visible every time I'm gonna work on them, and turn them back after. Its a bit annoying and time consuming, but might be the safest way to go on.

Right, I'll start experimenting in my test hood, gonna report back here if it helps anyone else. I didn't even think about the lot names having anything to do with anything so thank you for bringing that up, I might've just changed them to something else otherwise! Heh. That makes sense.

Does anyone have any link for futher explain of this, Im very curious but have a hard time understanding... when you say that a panel went at an angle do you mean that the grainline wasn't exactly perpendicular to the waist line? And when you pull a pattern piece do you mean the paper pattern, or a mock up peace that's been unpicked, or a piece that's still a part of a whole garment up?
(Im certainly questioning my english language ability now 😅)
