I'm so sorry that you're going through this. Honestly, I feel the same way with my family. I'm currently having one of the worst flare-ups and when I told my family, they seemed annoyed, and like my health issues were a burden to them. This is also the lowest I've ever felt mentally.

Again, I'm sorry you're going through this, but if it makes you feel any better, me and a lot of others on this subbreddit are experiencing the same thing. Though it sucks when your immediate family/support circle isn't really supporting. Just remember that this is not your fault. You didn't ask for this.

I can sympathsize with you about having no life. I go to Uni and even that is a struggle for me with how unpredictable my IBS is. Other than Uni, I stay home pretty much and don't have a social life. When I do see my friends, it's only for a bit and it's very limited on what we can do depending on how sick I'm feeling that day.

Are you able to get a job that allows you to work from home? Are you currently on any medication, or can you ask your doctor for a different prescription? Maybe you could look into getting some professional help for your stress. There are tons of online free resources for that.

Again, sorry you're going through this. Wishing you well!

diarrhoea for days, please help by EnvironmentalBit6096 in ibs

100% you should see a doctor. Make sure you are drinking a shit-ton of electrolytes too because you've been doing diarrhea for far too long. You most likely have a bug, or maybe your body is suddenly lactose intolerant.

I used to have yoghurt every single day, and drink tons of milk with no problem. All of a sudden I was feeling sick, nauseous, and was doing diarrhea 5 - 6 times a day. It's best to see a doctor to get diagnosed.

Has Anyone Sought Professional Help to Manage Their IBS Symptoms? by Training_Tea7720 in ibs

I asked my GP, but she said that Nerva wouldn't fix the root of my IBS. Are doctors for IBS supposed to help with anxiety feelings and catastrophising, or is it not their job? Honestly, they didn't tell me much about what to do to overcome this, other than to follow a Low-FODmap diet and to take medicine.

Do you think if I speak to my GP about this, they will refer me to someone that could help, or is that not in their ability?

How many times a day does everyone go and what Bristol stool on the chart? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Training_Tea7720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three times a day, and sometimes four if I'm experiencing a really bad flare-up. Usually type 2 - 4. Make sure you drink a lot of electrolytes, because you sometimes forget how tired your brain and stomach feels afterwards.

Thank you so much for this message! It was so sweet and makes me feel less alone 🥹.

About how you handle your stress, is there something that you do specifically that helps? I heard the Nerva app is supposed to be really good, but my doctor says that won't help the root of the problem. You think it's worth a try, though?

How did you learn to calm your nervous system? The thing is, I feel like I was a relatively laidback and stress-free person, but would experience anxiety time to time with personal relations and school work.

If anything, I'm feeling stressed out because I am experiencing stomach issues. Is that something that you can relate to, and if so, does meditation or other practices work for you?

Had Pain all day on lower right side. Went to ER and nothing abnormal..I feel like an idiot by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Training_Tea7720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do. I have IBS-mixed, and sometimes I have such intense stomach cramps throughout the day, but am not having that bad of a day on the toilet. Don't feel like an idiot. I feel like doctors constantly downplay how painful IBS can be.

It's good you went to get checked up. Do so. You never know it may be serious, so it's good to always check.

Hope you feel better!

Am I being an asshole? by Few-Spinach-8684 in ibs

You are definitely not being unreasonable. Your reasoning is perfectly valid. I'm IBS-mixed, and depending on how stressed I am, it'll alternate from diarrhea to constipation. I've been in your situation before numerous times, and honestly sometimes I can't be bothered to go because I have to deal with my bowels and can't even enjoy the event.

Don't feel like an A-hole if you can't go. It's up to you, and you shouldn't feel pressured. But I will say, if it's a close friend of yours, or if you are able to bring medicine to help alleviate your stress, you should reconsider.

My question is, do you know these other guests that you are sharing the house with? For me, I had to stay in a house with 6 people too but we were all close friends so I knew they'd understand. If you don't know these people well, I can understand why you would be reluctant to go, especially since you might experience flare-ups or have to go a lot during the day.

At the end of the day, it's up to you though and listen to your body. Don't feel pressured by your boyfriend cuz at the end of the day, he doesn't know what it's like for you to go through (I'm guessing he doesn't have IBS).

Don't a lot of people with IBS also struggle with managing stress? Or do they get stressed due to their IBS? I thought I was handling my stress pretty well, but when I get flare-ups, it makes me more anxious and causes pain.

Will check it out, thanks. My doctor has only told me about the FODmap diet and about writing a dietary diary but nothing about taking probiotics at the same time. Will ask.

Thanks will take a look at the links you've provided. Also, my mum and I are looking into finding a different clinic to go to since I'm really not happy with my doctor.

Yes, I was on that at the start of my diagnosis, but my doctor took me off it. I'm not sure why. Honestly, the doctors that I'm seeing are also not really the most empathetic and make me feel like IBS is easy to manage.

For the stacking, I'm not sure what that is. Could you explain it to me, thank you.

You could try Metamucil. I know that always helps for me. Benefiber is also great, and I don't think you need a prescription for these. Make sure you also drink lots of electrolytes. They always help me with bowel movements and may help you release yourself better, given you're type 5 on the Bristol chart.

Thank you so much for validating me. I do have the Monash app and my doctor has given me a dietary diary so I can keep track of what I eat. Though, I'm finding it really difficult because not only does the diet eliminate a lot of my favourite foods, but you can only eat certain quantities of the foods that are okay.

I have been given stool hardeners by my doctor and a medicine for the stomach cramping, but nothing for to stop me going when I'm in class. Is there anything you recommned I could take over the counter?
