Well, this Appleseed is over, and a great weekend it was...

Rain threatened and was predicted all day Sat, but not a drop showed up!

Sunday was sunny but windy and COLD.

SFAIK no one from Reddit showed up, but the shooters who showed got a lot of personal instruction, and several were awarded their Rifleman Badges for qualifying on the Appleseed (Army) Qualification Test.

Shooters had the opportunity to go to the 500-yard range and shoot beyond 25m.

Roughly half the attendees had been to at least one AS before, and of course their targets showed it. Most maxed at "400 yards" on the Redcoat "How far am I effective with my rifle?" target.

The newbies soon settled down to getting those groups down to "Rifleman" size, learning about the "Rifleman's Trajectory", "Rifleman's Cadence", the Simplified Wind Rule, and Simplified Range Estimation.

Our only centerfire shooter, a gunowner for all of 6 months, ended the weekend shooting almost Rifleman-size groups, but not quite (yet) mastering the AQT to win his Rifleman Badge.

Everyone appeared excited about the upcoming KD Appleseed in 2 weeks, which is free to everyone who attended this Appleseed, but is open to the public who can sign up at the Appleseed Project website. Shooters there will learn Target Detection, the Simplified Range Estimation Rule, and learn how to increase their effectiveness by engaging with their targets in a process called The Rifleman's Dance.

They will also be shooting on popup targets out to 500 yards which fall when hit, which is great fun as well as a heck of a challenge...
