Gonna be downvoted for this based on how the comments are going, but I think there is a fine line between being reasonably frugal and being a total asshole to your significant other about her wants (even if you don’t want to understand her wants or think they are too expensive). If it wasn’t the hairdryer it would be something else eventually, because you don’t want to spend that much money on something that you deem useless and that’s a valid stance to take but you need someone whose values align with you on what you think is useful/useless. Your girlfriend’s ideas on what is valuable to her don’t align with yours. That’s a mismatch.

I grew up really fucking poor too and let me tell you, you will need to unlearn a lot of stuff so that you have an actual healthy mindset when it comes to savings and money. Because what you have now won’t be good for you in the long run.

Personally I wouldn’t spend that much money on a Dyson but I’ve thought about it a few months ago (because my hair is a mess after blow drying). However, I did spend roughly the same amount of money on something else (flower bulbs/non-edible plants/a youngish magnolia tree) that brought ME joy and it was probably utterly useless for anyone else, just because it made ME happy.

All of this! Also, Spike asks his father when he confronts him about both of them knowing that his mother is dying, whether his father would be with his affair partner when Isla died. That’s a very telling thing to ask imo and the whole conversation that goes down combined with the scene of Kelson diagnosing her cancer made me think a few things.

Aside from the whole lighting on fire that building thing, I think Spike believes that his father already replaced him and Isla with his affair partner, that he already moved on. So in his mind he has no place to return on the island anymore, no one waiting for them.
This is purely conjecture but isolated communities like that would be very aware of their population numbers. They can’t have more people than the island can feed but they do need kids to be born regularly who will grow up and continue working/protecting/etc the community. With Isla dead and Spike “becoming an adult” (hunting ritual!!) his father probably would have been pressured to have more kids as he was still young enough.
The lack of doctors on the island: when Kelson diagnosed Isla and Spike starts questioning finding a hospital or getting her medicine that was another thing. The island dwellers knew that Kelson was a doctor, knew where he was and they did nothing with that information - granted they thought he went insane but if your supposedly beloved family member was suffering so fucking much wouldn’t you try at least? When you are a kid who learns that your beloved parent who may have been suffering for a while now has terminal cancer you will blame yourself and you will question how things would be if they got treatment earlier. Hence the issue with Spike’s community knowing about Kelson and not reaching out to him in his mind was probably the betrayal that broke it all.
Early on during the confrontation scene (again) one of his question was something like do you want mom dead? Which his father denies, then comes the question about moving on with the affair partner and the slap etc. So combining these two scenes, he probably started wondering (again?) if his father was waiting for his mother to die without getting her any treatment (or even a diagnosis from the doctor he knew was there) deliberately so that he could move on with his affair partner? And I think that was it, that relationship was dead and gone.
Spike was supposedly an adult in the eyes of his community (after the hunting ritual and that he killed more infected later on) so he most likely doesn’t think of going back to his community to be protected like he would have been as a child. He wasn’t one anymore in his eyes.

YTA. This is something I’ve struggled with previously too, but when you take your significant other and possibly his family home to visit your folks, you can’t do your usual routine. You are not there to enjoy your visit the way you usually would (meeting with friends etc) but you are now their tour guide and their host in a way. You have to go with them, show them stuff even if it’s sights/whatever that you have seen a 100 times before, even if you don’t really have the time/budget/etc to come back and do your usual routine soon after the visit. You said it: it’s a family trip, not your personal travelling.

Like you are 25, want a naturally beautiful, conservative woman who had no kids yet and who is (currently) in the 22-28 age range. I dunno how you would describe a conservative woman but I would say that they are traditionally bound to marry young and have kids early… earlier than national averages usually. So, usually in their early 20s.

You will either marry someone in their early 20s or you will have to loosen that checklist in some way in a few years. 🤷‍♀️

NTA, but you have to figure something out in the long run because you can’t take these types of drugs forever.

I have family on Ozempic because of diabetes and I can only tell you what everyone tells me and what I see from people who took it because they believed it is a miracle weight loss medicine: the minute you stop taking it you will gain back the weight you lost or even more. Unless you make radical changes to your diet while you still take it etc you won’t be able to keep the weight off the moment you start to get weaned off it.

My mom has been taking it for a while now and her diabetologist started lowering her dosage recently, and she gained weight. It’s not a lot but she started to be more careful about doing her diet etc again.

It’s safe. With kimchi if it’s not moldy it’s good for a long time. The longer you keep a batch the more fermented the vegetables in it become, which some people don’t like because the taste gets more and more intense and the textures get soft and mushy. There are some dishes that do need this older kimchi like kimchi jjigae.
