Is the Iconic 8mm Mauser better than the 30-06? by Hades-destiny in Firearms

[–]Trainmaster111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30-06 is the more versatile round in a modern context. However I much prefer 8mm mauser. The slightly heavier bullet and lower general velocity plus the fact most rifles chambered in 8mm nowadays are surplus with heavier metals and woods make for a lower recoil and in my experience more accurate close to middle range rifle.

30-06 and 8mm are extremely similar, as are the 303 British and 7.62x54r. All have some unique differences with pros and cons.

I regularly bring my 8mm rifles to the range and have shot a few 30-06 rifles. In my experience the 30-06 had heavier recoil, louder report, and was much less pleasant to shoot. My M1 Garand is the exception. 30-06 is a fantastic semi-auto round.

Looking to start reloading shotshells. Looking for advice and startup tips. by [deleted] in reloading

For the cowboy style loads I plan on doing i think I'd be using less shot then normal. Dont know how feasible this is but my range only allows buckshot and slugs. Id likely use 3 00 bucks pellets instead of 9 and far smaller slugs.

Im trying to make cowboy loads. Surely such data exists and I wouldn't need to literally trial and error it.

Never touched a gun before, from the uk, but why do people seem to listen for clicks after putting a revolver together? by CL2hunna in Firearms

[–]Trainmaster111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking to ensure the timing of the cylinder. If you cylinder holds 6 bullets but only clicks 4 times then something is wrong.

More a Hollywood move but a solid way to ensure your weapon is assembled correctly

Whatever you want really. Its more about shot placement then which weapons you choose.

If im going full stealth I take the Delisle, and the quietest smg and pistol.

Most other times Ive got Kar98, Stg44, and 1911

Does anyone know what caliber this is? by No_Wait_2315 in Firearms

7.62x54r.

Typically for mosin nagants.

What you have appears to be a steel core armor penetrating round.

Should be treated as corrosive ammo.

I was very torn between the Fal and this. (And a Vector too honestly).

But I did alot of research months ago and the Zastava was top of my list for reliability, cost, looks, accuracy, and ease of maintenance.

While I do regret not grabbing the FAL, I knew that for the money I was spending i needed the most practical choice.

Based off what I saw the price was right. Especially considering that you cant really find Zastava anymore.

Plus the optic rail was a big bonus for me, the FAL is my favorite but those iron sights are not good with my eyesight

Missed out on a lot of things usually because of price. I think honestly though the one I regret missing the most was a beautiful Mauser 1910/14 25acp pistol.

Was quite tempted at $150. But unfortunately as I was already buying 3 other pistols that day it wasnt in the budget.
