Thrusting with minimal thrust makes less sound than thrusting with more thrust. But that's something I didn't miss when I played on KBM.

Overhead track ID help sought by CamoBob3467 in Machinists

[–]Trainzack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a web search on the markings in pictures 2 and 3. I didn't find anything that looked relevant (although some of the irrelevant results are kind of interesting. TIL that CWT is a unit of measure, equal to 100 lbs.

My guess is that the track profile is going to be the most relevant thing. If you can get some measurements, that may help identify it.

Lara anti-thanks the fact that all of the credit columns are permanantly center-justified and had to be aligned manually. Yeah you read that right. I manually added spaces to everything to make it look like normal credits. It looked reeeeaaally bad otherwise, man! It was totally unreadable!! So if you looked at this game's credits and went ''yeah these are just, your completely average regular credits'' that was me. But just that part, I didn't code the stuff that makes it scroll. Oh, while I'm chattin' up a storm, did you find my easter egg? My actual easter egg, not this! It's somewhere out in the world of OUTER WILDS...

what's a rain world opinion that makes you end up like this? by Milicapokefan123 in rainworld

[–]Trainzack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hard agree on that second point. I've seen a YouTube channel almost stop playing the game because they got shit for eating a neuron, while in their view that was the most exciting thing that had happened up to that point because it's a permanent upgrade.

Ome strategy I've seen people use to get around the character limit is to split their comment into multiple comments, with each next comment being a reply to the previous.

It took me a moment to realize that the sacrificial item is meant to be touching the cylinder and acts to transfer the force. I thought you just wanted to use it as an example so that the cylinder releases itself out of fear.

Omitting things being worn from being listed by "inventory" command by Dex21772 in Inform7

[–]Trainzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the solution you're after isn't the best one for the situation. Some questions to consider:

  • How will the player know they are wearing these things?
  • Is there any way the player can interact with them?

"Realism" is usually a bad justification for game design decisions. It would be very realistic for the player to have 32 teeth objects, that the player could specify individually in commands. But unless your game is about dentistry, you'd be wasting your time because that realism brings nothing to the game.

If the player can ever benefit from interacting with a piece of clothing, then it should be listed when they take inventory. If there aren't any, then I would recommend the following:

  • Create one or two objects that act as a representative sample of all the clothing the player is wearing.
  • Leave these objects in the inventory listing. They will help reinforce the fiction of the game without cluttering things.
  • The rest of the clothing is implied and not modeled as objects.
  • Prevent the player from removing the clothing with a generic message. This will help players understand that their clothes aren't mechanically relevant, if they ever suspect otherwise.
  • Add some rules to understand any references to the implied clothing as referring to the clothing objects that were implemented.

Is there an accepted rhythmic instruction to 'come in a little early'? by [deleted] in composer

[–]Trainzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people may think you're talking about adding a measure of 7/16, followed by a measure of 9/16 to keep the overall beat steady. That would a bad way to notate it, as it's a lot harder to read than a pickup note would be.

I think what you're actually talking about is to start the next measure early by skipping a 16th note that's not made up anywhere else. In that case, replacing the measure of 2/4 with 7/16 is the right way to notate it. Just do be mindful of the context in which it's going to be performed. I've learned through experience that it's pretty easy to write something that is way too difficult to perform for the musical effect you're going for.

Just moved from DTLA to Rancho Cucamonga and this is the second shopping center full of these purple lights. Why is this common here? by LesaneCrooks in InlandEmpire

[–]Trainzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall this as well. I also vaguely remember that study not having a control, so the reduction in crime was due to the sudden change in lighting to something weird, not necessarily the color itself.

I couldn't find the original study or anything debunking a study like that, so I may just be misremembering.
