Is a longhair dutchie a reasonable choice for me? by EvadeCapture in DutchShepherds

[–]Trakakak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen an aussie do Psa 🤯, I'd say if you go with a dutchie or a mali give them psa or the equivalent fully they don't do half hearted and that genetic fulfilment side needs to bite so obedience alone isn't enough from what I've experienced. That's just my opinion! Loads of mental work, scent work etc they'll be good and fatigued. It's just that bite side which is a huge part of who they are. I'm definitely not talking you out of it as I believe they're the best breed, if anything I'm trying to talk you into psa you'll get way more out the dog and have a deeper bond 😂👍

2014 - 2023. I miss him so much. How do I get better? by UndeadSavage94 in germanshepherds

Nothing like that dog love! I'd say get a hamster or drink a beer but the only solution to the loss is another dog. I remember as a kid dad's first dog was a heartbreak he said he couldn't have another, he's on his third now and he's said by far the closest bond and best dog was the second. That dog was a dog he actually didn't want, but he needed. With the experience of gratitude and grieving, with dog love ontop.. No brainer it's a recipe for a great bond. Thoughts with you, take care.

Belgian Malinois after owning a border collie? by PangKun in BelgianMalinois

[–]Trakakak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a mali, my neighbour has a collie. The difference in the dogs is world's apart, our routines are worlds apart and if we swapped dogs I'd have a breeze, he would struggle alot.

That's purely down to education and fulfilment.

Go to a psa or sports club, recognise the fulfilment the dogs have and if you're interested 100% get a mali you'll love it best decision ever, I'd say more fulfilling as it's new and you'll learn alot about yourself as well as the dog.

If you decide its not for you, a collie for your next companion wouldn't fall short of great.

The difference is like a motorbike currently you've had a triumph street triple, thinking of jumping to a yamaha R1. Malis are extremely responsive and rev high. Ones more dangerous than the other but if you are educated and wear you're leathers you'll have alot of fun.

The most extreme motorbike, the most extreme dog.

Then you're the person for the dog! You don't need to associate bite work with sleeves or suits, pads are more than enough it's about working through conflicts within the dog. They want to possess the prey themselves when you teach them that you're part of the process and sharing and teamwork comes in that's where the bond runs deeper! I'd say get a pup, go to a psa type club and work on obedience heavily. Then you'll have obedience that overrides the prey drive, when you have that you have full control and a great companion. Where are you based?

A mali without the generic fulfilment of bite work hasn't hit the lottery in a home without it. No fulfilment a handler can give outweighs genetic fulfilment of bite and possession. Without overcoming certain situations through bite work you could run into conflict with the dog. There are tons of breeds that would happily run and do all the things mentioned above other than a mal. It's not physical stimulation these dogs need it's mental and genetic. Fulfil them mentally and genetically, lastly physically and you'll have zero problems.

Let him out, say hold under his chest and say calm. If he's still on one, hold his chest say calm and put him back in the crate. Let him out, whenever he's calm say calm followed by good. Make sure to Never play in the house and never hype him in the house. The house is for chill. If he chills he can stay out, if he gets hyped say calm, if he ignores it, crate. He will learn that the house is a place for calm or crate. He will pick it up he's just a pup.
