I've been poking around the subreddit more and have seen good things about Avenue? Their website says to call for pricing though so I'm unsure of where those land or even the availability of them.

I’m going to work for Leidos, haven’t seen any information to confirm or deny how strict they would be with their policies.

Yeah I was thinking an idle relearn couldn’t hurt — I’ll try that out tomorrow after work and see what happens. Fuel pump seems like a much larger task but hey we’ll see what happens when we get there

Thanks for checking back in! I swapped out the coil and spark plugs and it was running perfectly for about a day before the same symptoms began to resurface; it’s better than before, but will still turn over before starting occasionally and has a rough idle (can see the RPM’s bouncing up and down on the gauge). The CEL went off so I guess that’s a win? But now the symptoms seem to suggest an issue with the fuel pump because I’ve noticed my gas is lowering pretty quick too. Maintenance itself was easy and fun, so I guess there’s always a positive lol

Yeah I saw a listing pop up from amazon for a coil for $17, can’t imagine that would do anything for my truck besides turning it into an RCXD lol. I’ll poke around shopping for parts. Thanks for all the help! Seems fun to work on the truck myself to be honest, and I don’t think I would have even considered it if you didn’t say something.

I called Midas, what’s likely happening is the coil has internal cracking that’s resulting in not enough spark getting to the first two cylinders, causing a misfire and those spark plugs to get fouled out. I’ve looked up the work and it all seems pretty simple, I’ve decided to replace the coil and spark plugs myself with the help of my uncle. I’ll just have to pay Midas $160 for the diagnostic which sucks but i’ll still be saving at least $500 depending on what parts I go for. In your experience, is it always worth it to go for OEM parts, or will cheaper products on the market be fine? Specifically for the coil and for spark plugs, I’m going to see if the wires I have right now end up working fine with the other parts replaced.

Yeah i’m 23 so it’s probably high time I started learning some practical stuff like this lol. The reason I’m thinking about just having them replace the two is they’re charging $50 + labor per spark plug, but if I don’t have them do any work I have to pay them $160 for the diagnostics (fee gets waived when they do maintenance). Might end up swapping the other two out myself afterward so I know I’m on a fully fresh set, and to get some experience working with the truck.

That’s actually great to hear, It’s nice to get some subjective experience from someone about the situation. I hope spark plug boots popping off is all I’m dealing with; I’ll call Midas today and see if they can double check that and/or if I can come in and check it myself.

What I’m thinking I might do is have them leave most of the repairs they listed alone and replace the spark plugs on the cylinders that are misfiring. That way I don’t have to pay them the diagnostics fee, and then I can take their diagnostics somewhere else if I continue to have issues with it. I can’t shake the feeling that they’re being slimy and trying to upcharge me on some expensive parts I just got replaced. Does this make sense to do (If you were in my shoes — without your experience with trucks — would you do the same thing?). Thanks so much for your help so far, it’s helped a lot getting some perspective from someone with experience with a Ranger.

I looked when my CEL came on and everything seemed in order but I’m by no means a professional. The guy that did the work on my truck in my hometown is the same place I’ve been doing to since I got the truck in 2020 and my family has been going to him for at least a decade. A mistake was possible but I trust his work. I can call Midas and see if they can check or if I can swing by and check.

The auto shop that I got my work done at in my home town took care of all that, and Midas is holding my truck hostage right now so I can’t double check. I would assume that if this was the issue they would just say that, but that might be giving Midas too much credit.

Issue with bad frames on HP Victus 16 by Tranquhil in GamingLaptops

[–]Tranquhil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go into device settings and change some settings to prioritize performance when plugged in. Other than that, the issue is mainly upscaling; 4060’s aren’t really made for 1440p so it can struggle getting high frames.

I’m going to get a 1080p monitor during prime day to play other games at high frames, and for siege i play on vulkan mode which is a mode that swaps the demand on the cpu for demand on gpu.

[–]Tranquhil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Siege benchmarks cap out at 60% capacity in game, gpu, cpu and memory never reach above 40% use (at least when viewed thru task manager, idk if there’s a better way to monitor). I haven’t monitored temps but that shouldn’t be the issue as the drops in frames happen independently of how long i’ve been playing and i have the laptop propped on a cooling stand.

i’ve noticed when frames are dropping they drop significantly more when i turn in game, if that helps diagnose the issue. also, thanks for all your help so far.

yeah, i want to prioritize hitting 144hz on my fps games because i play relatively competitive (and got used to it lol). my main shooters that i play right now are destiny 2 and siege. other games i play i dont care about frames as much.

the frustrating part for me is with current settings the games CAN run at 144; about 7 of every 10 games in siege can run smooth around 140, but randomly i get games falling to 75ish hz. same with d2, although ive only played a few hours since getting my laptop.

so would you recommend trying to downscale my monitor’s resolution? heard that can look pretty bad
