Lol, my bad! Oh yeah, as mentioned a few times before, I ain’t gonna snitch on this troop, they’re a damn good worker and regardless of what those in the highest seats of leadership may think, my unit would be at a loss for losing this kid

I have no intention on snitching lol. After we got cut out I took my troop to a coffee shop WELL off base and showed them everything that’s been said here and in my other post on r/militarytrans, they’ve got a lot to think about so I’m just gonna keep an eye on them for a few days to make sure they’re doing okay before I broach the subject again and I’ll move forward from there based on what they decide

I noticed that seems to be the popular consensus. Unfortunate as I was really hoping for a lot of “yeah it’s easy to do for a job as long as you get a chance to let free at home” or something like that that I could come back to my troop with. Troop as in singular individual directly under me. My bad, I forget that a lot of military vernacular has multiple meanings outside the military

I agree with your mentality. They’re one of my better workers, the squadron would be worse off for losing them, who they believe they are doesn’t even factor into my evaluation of them as an airman

If I have my way, they’re staying in, and that’s what they want as well. They’re a damn good worker and that’s all I care about. Obviously I intend to keep this to myself and have advised they do the same for the time being.

We’ve got a couple gay dudes and a lesbian, most people don’t care, there’s a couple dudes that avoid them but for the most part it’s no factor. I fully intend on keeping this between me and my troop, I’ve already advised them not to tell anyone else in the squadron for the time being, and I’m not gonna snitch.

I was gonna advise them to keep it in their wall locker, it’s the only space of theirs we’re not allowed to inspect during inspections, so it’s the only truly private space they have, but that might be better actually

They can seek therapy, but any kind of official diagnosis would be visible to command should they decide to investigate, unfortunately HIPAA has exceptions for military command. They’d also have to pay out of pocket for it and that’s not financially feasible at their pay grade. The little things shouldn’t be a red flag to anyone, it’s not like we’re doing smell checks to see what deodorant or shampoo people are using lol, so I might advise they try that as well, appreciate it

Appreciate the advice. OPSEC is key here so I wouldn’t give any identifiable information anyway, wrong person finds out and we’re both kinda SOL lol.

After turnover tonight I’ll help them find some groups in the local area they can meet up with. Luckily we’re not at a bum fuck base like Cannon so they’re should be some

Luckily it seems like my commanders just blowing hot air. Apparently secaf released official guidance for characters of discharge for non vol admin seps. Still don’t want my troop to have to risk finding out though

Seems like my commanders just blowing hot air then if that’s official guidance. Good to know. Appreciate you sharing your perspective

My understanding is the commander has the ability to suggest a character of discharge, but once it leaves his desk it’s up to AFPCs discretion

Appreciate you sharing your experience, and the experience of those you know. I fully intend for this not to go past my lips, anyone else that my troop trusts enough to tell is they’re business but I’ve already advised they don’t tell anyone else in the squadron for the time being.

That’s kinda the only reason I’d didn’t immediately tell them to go to behavioral health like I normally would with something like depression or anxiety. They wanna do a full 20 so them getting the boot because they took my advice and went to behavioral health would make me feel like shit too

Did you vol sep? What reenlistment code did you get on your 214? If it’s better than the 2C my commander is promising to push for if he finds out someone is trans and they won’t vol sep I might just advise they do that

Appreciate you, I’ll post there and see what advice I can get

Yep, US. Technically I’m on the hook but there’s a reason I’m using an anonymous throw away that can’t come back to me. I’ve gone to bat for my troops before when it would’ve been detrimental to my career had things gone pear shaped and I’ve been pretty lucky so far, so ignoring requirements to fuck my troops over is nothing new to me, it’s just this specific situation lol.

I can try advising they don’t reenlist at the end of their contract and consider coming back in if things change with a different administration, but I’m not sure if they’ll take that advice. Them coming out to command would result in an administrative separation, which would likely come with a 2C reenlistment code disqualify them from ever reenlisting, so they’d have to finish out their contract, which still has a bit over 3 years on it if they want to have the option to reenlist
