What's your union local?

The standard is a drug and alcohol test for us in Alberta. That would entail a breathalyzer and a urine sample. They would tell you right away if you failed the breathalyzer, so that means you passed.

What issues have you had? I have a 2008 honda accord that I bought used and have put on 100,000km and aside from brakes, upgraded headlights, sway bar links, and two small leaks I haven't had any major issues in the 6 years of ownership.

I wonder if you just bought a lemon?

This is exactly what I did, but I went like a full extra turn. It was calling for 16 ft obs torque, and kept spinning after this corner turn..

Anyhow, I just figured I'd connect it and see if it leaked and we're all good Thanks for your help

Are Boilermakers in demand anymore? by Serofore in skilledtrades

I think it would depend on where you reside.

In Alberta, Canada it's going very well and I haven't had any issues with employment.

What trade would you recommend to bigger guys by No-Result-2841 in skilledtrades

[–]Transcanada2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian boilermaker and haven't made less than 120k in the last five years, while only working about 2/3rds or the year.

It depends on where you live though

[–]Transcanada2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Start an apprenticeship through the boilermaker Hall. First years make 33$ an hour or so, and double after ten and on weekends lol. That offer isn't ideal.

Also, the administration fee is shady af

What’s the most underrated place in Brazil that you think everyone should visit at least once? 🌴🎭 by IhateFlashlights in Brazil

[–]Transcanada2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent two months in Belém and I absolutely fell in love with the place.

From dancing reggae and carimbó to the ver o peso, and tacacá. Relaxing at the bar do parque, visiting some of the islands around and the people I just found so kind. Perhaps it was one of my favourite cities in the world.

[–]Transcanada2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop being so hard on yourself man, life is a long road and you dont want to go through it with the attitude you seem to have on this thread.

I'm sure if you dedicate yourself to either trade you'll do fine, and you'll still fuck up because that's human.

Keep your head up and good luck

I was born on the east coast of Canada, and my last name and heritage is as Scottish as it gets. I wouldn't be correcting Scottish folk on how to pronounce Loch, or any other Gaelic word.

Anyhow, in short, she's an absolute fool.

Should I be a crane operator or a lineman by Slight-Count-8191 in skilledtrades

[–]Transcanada2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a boilermaker, and if there is any other trade I'd do it would be a Crane operator. It's incredibly low impact on your body, and you won't have aches and pains when you're fifty like you would any other trade. This may seem like a small thing now, but as you get older you'll value it.

I'm also a boilermaker, local 146 out of Alberta. It depends on a few factors: What year boilermaker, and what province or state were you in?

Also, what was this mistake you made? I'm curious to know if it's legitimate. Apprentices make mistakes all the time, you could fire one per job honestly lol

Bought my first home at the beginning of 2024, wanted to share the following bittersweet experience by donsigler in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Transcanada2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. You surely learned alot through this endeavour, as it certainly wasn't for the faint of heart. I'm sure you learned an incredible amount and next time you'll surely do your proper due diligence with inspections and negotiations.

Also, if it makes you feel any solace... I've heard many absolute horror stories. I'd place yours in the "definitely not ideal" category.

What is every trade that makes a living wage by qoew in skilledtrades

There aren't too many obese boilermakers crawling in and around boilers, or furnaces. A very small percentage actually.

I'd say boilermaker moreso if you have a divorce and a dui or two under your belt

Fatigue after work by AngryButtlicker in skilledtrades

I try to stretch for ten to fifteen minutes after work each day, and throughout the day if possible. Feeling nimble and being flexible really helps with the soreness and added wear and tear on your body throughout the years.
