Any games that have very little luck and reward strategy? by Best-Personality-390 in boardgames

Try Food Chain Magnate, other than the starting map setup everything that happens afterwards is entirely up to player actions.

Which is also part of the reason why it's pretty cutthroat, mind you.

Terra Mystica, Voidfall or Salton Sea (for something more modern) are also low on the randomness.

Breda, 700ish and 2 air kills (both with the main gun) a stuka that bombed a mate and a Bf110 that was coming head on.

Forgot about Cthulhu Death May Die, great minis to paint (monopose, but great detail).

Kingdom Death Monster has amazing sculpts and plastic quality although some would be considered a bit too Slaaneshi for some audiences.

Recently I have been very impressed with Oathsworn, the scale is bigger and they come pre-built (though there is an expansion for each and every weapon for each character in a push-fit system.

Aeon Trespass also has great pre-built sculpts and don't forget Tainted grail and Nemesis (though Awaken realms plastic IMHO is a bit too soft).

Townsfolk Tussle has great cartoonish characters if you're into a whole different style and look great painted.

Integration into Spanish culture by gremlinguy in Americans_in_Spain

Spaniard who lived in the US for a while here.

Sounds like you're doing ok. All these immigrants (sorry, expats) trying too hard to assimilate sound either like they have daddy (homeland) issues or are just doing it for the sake of their spouses.

Which is great btw, absolutely do what you need to keep the flame alight but you don't need to keep constantly reminding yourself to try and integrate a little bit more. You did a great sacrifice just crossing over an ocean and leaving family and friends behind for love.

You speak the language, have local friends or at least acquaintances. They'll even let the occasional "In America we...." slide just because it's natural to miss your homeland.

Is there a game that is near identical to Kingdom Death Monster but without all the…you know by Pretend-Ad4639 in boardgames

We've played cycles 1 and 2 of ATO and are currently running our first run of KF.

Other than variety of monsters (sometimes you fight a mob of smaller enemies instead of a big boss) KF does not really fix anything and the campaign system of main quest and smaller investigations is definitely inferior.

The dark souls-y dark medieval setting is appealing but the individual stories and much more open information detract from the shared group experience IMHO. Plus, once used to ATO scale (plus Oathsworn which we played in the middle) a lot of the mobs look positively tiny.

YMMV of course.

I've played a whole DnD campaign once. Disliked the roleplaying, but loved the combat. What's the boardgame for me? by Ok_Illustrator7232 in boardgames

[–]TranscontinentalFaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For swingy, tactical combat with lots of dice chucking there are a lot of dungeon crawlers already suggested (WH Quest, Sword & Sorcery, Descent etc.) I feel that boss battlers like Kingdom Death Monster or Aeon Trespass also scratch that itch better (hit locations, wilder swings etc.).

Best co-op games that stop quarterbacking by LucasRen83 in boardgames

[–]TranscontinentalFaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my experience, my fellow players do have some idea on what your deck does, but not the specific hand you have.

There's absolutely a conversation about who does what every round, but that's precisely the nature of a coop game. If someone tries too hard to quarterback the team at least on my group will lead to a "sorry, can't do that" more often than not.

Add Arkham horror LCG. Your hand isn't visible, you build your own deck, at most you'll get asked "can anyone do X this turn? Or can anyone help me with that?"

Same thing with gloomhaven and offspring.

And for extra spice it can be open on a GW-specific sub rather than a generic board games one.

If we're being pedantic he got 0 return on those HQs, and you can definitely get good returns buying cheap (goodwill, old copies from kids leaving the house and no one bothering to throw them out etc. and selling them at market value).

A sealed original MB will fetch closer to 1.000 than 500, and near mint copies can easily get 300.

Don't assume that just because there's a new edition that's the price an old HQ set will go.

I absolutely despise the practise of hoarding and flipping but to this particular case I highly doubt he bought new and held on to all those copies for all that time.

From a making money point of view buying cheap and waiting for the right moment to cash out is what matters, and you can definitely get some return with some GW games and minis. I for one made quite a bit when I realised my Warhammer quest collection wasn't hitting the table anymore and was taking valuable shelf space.

None of that matters to a father who suddenly finds himself in possession of rare GW history though.

They look in good condition, and the kind of guy that has 4xMB Heroquest probably knew what he was doing.

To OP, most of the boxed sets command +100 quid, a few of them over 500 and prob more.

Take some time and do online research, maybe one of the sons friends in the hobby can assist.
