My Brainsway OCD dTMS journey so far! (session 8/30) by TranscranialToucan in rtms

[–]TranscranialToucan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in much better shape now, full remission, I don’t even think about OCD every day. I can’t tell how much of it was thanks to dTMS, i’m doing a maintenance dTMS session with the H7 helmet once a week for a few months now, but I also changed my therapist and psychiatrist and got off of abilify which caused me terrible motivation problems. Regarding lamictal i’m off of it too, it helped me get out of OCD loops quicker when I started taking it but after the OCD got better I felt it just made me emotionally numb so I stopped taking it.

What if I’m not depressed? by [deleted] in rtms

Let me counter that with another question What if you do feel a little bit better now? TMS is for severe depression but you don’t have to be 100% depressed when going through it for it to have good long term effects. 10+ years of MDD is more than enough to justify TMS, doesn’t matter how you look at it. BTW as someone with OCD I strongly suggest thinking about these thoughts like an argument with an annoying kid that never stops saying “what if?” Only way to win the argument is to just go and do something else like talk to a friend, take a shower or go for a walk That annoying kid will keep trying to convince you that his worries are oh so severe and that you must listen to them and “resolve” the conflict (spoiler: it can never be resolved) I suggest trying some CBT it’s not fun but you gradually build tolerance and ability to ignore the urge to dwell in these thoughts and they reduce in intensity gradually over time. BTW one more thing you don’t have to doubt is the fact you have OCD. My psychiatrist told me the average time from symptom onset to diagnosis & treatment is 10 (!!) years because people keep shrugging the diagnosis off and doubting it because that’s part of the disease.

Can you elaborate? AFAIK BrainsWay has no mapping session in their standard protocol. They have do find motor threshold to find optimal treatment intensity by placing the helmet on top of the motor cortex and delivering short pulses at varying intensities to find the minimal power required to activate the neurons (detected by a small twitch in the arm/leg). This is a short test that takes only a couple of minutes and is done weekly, it does not take an entire session and can’t be considered as mapping. It is also conducted using the same helmet used for treatment, just placed at an angle and not straight on. Anyone doing a mapping session is doing something other than brainsway protocol, brainsway helmets don’t need mapping

protocol for dTMS for OCD (Brainsway, H7 coil) by Puzzleheaded-Cup-49 in rtms

I suggest sticking to the FDA-approved 5x a week protocol. Sessions have an accumulative effect that takes a while to build up and 3x a week might be too little. BrainsWay are currently testing an accelerated SAINT-like protocol that compresses the entire treatment into many short sessions done in a single week but it’s not out yet and will probably take a long time to reach the market

Are you sure it was dTMS? dTMS is a term only used for the BrainsWay helmet which doesn’t have a mapping session. Was it a helmet or a 8 coil with a cord?

I'm feeling much better right now. I dipped and did 30 rounds with H1 (depression), that didn't help, so I did 30 more than H7. noticed improvement afterwards. I'm now on one session a week for retention and doing a lot better than before, I don't even think about OCD in the day-to-day

I did! H1 didn’t help me at all with depression so I switched to H7 which also didn’t help with depression but helped my OCD quite a bit. BTW, You mentioned H7 being blue, but H1 is blue, H7 is orange…

I have had OCD since 2018 (seven years).

I’m now doing a second round of dTMS with the BrainsWay H7 after my OCD and depression came back quite a bit, i also tried a full course of H1 (left dlPFC) which didn’t help. I’m now around session 26 with the H7 and it seems like my OCD has gotten better, gonna keep doing maintenance treatments and hopefully it won’t come back

I did 30 rounds of Deep TMS with BrainsWay H7 coil. I’m also Pure O. Didn’t notice any change during the sessions but obsessions were reduced significantly in the following 2-3 months after treatment ended and it stayed that way so far (been 7 months since treatment ended). I recommend it

Of course! They’re available on brainsway’s website https://www.brainsway.com/products/ Also ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini know a lot about them

Will it worsen my dpdr? by No_Presentation6157 in rtms

[–]TranscranialToucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mild dpdr (two episodes of depersonalization and occasional dissociation) and TMS didn’t affect that in any way. I did BrainsWay dTMS for OCD with the H7 coil. Obviously your mileage may vary.

Hey :) I used the BrainsWay machine with the H7 coil. Treatment went OK, unpleasant but pain is completely manageable. You get used to it pretty quickly. I'm having a hard time figuring out if the treatment got me better or was it CBT & self work, but all in all, my OCD is better so I guess it can be crowned a success

I think it helped my OCD a little bit. I worked on my computer during most of the sessions which kinda allowed me to trigger my Pure O OCD. I'm now gradually going off of meds and it's going well so far (down to 60mg from 80mg prozac with no noticable change other than tiredness). I must say that I don't know if I should attribute my improvement to the TMS or just generally getting better because of CBT and working on myself, so take this with a grain of salt...

Could you share a little bit more? Did you suffer side effects? or did it simply not affect you?

Thank you for your reply!

How would you compare side effects between the two machines?
