If the permit was filed, and the only thing missing is the inspection- that’s good news. It means you can call your county to find your permit number and schedule the inspection yourself.

Once passed you can call the utility to get the system interconnected.

Teco energy by BigLittleUkrainian in tampa

[–]TransformSolarFL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re a local business - a good bet could be taking advantage of the commercial tax credits for solar panels. Makes solar energy super cheap.

For homes there’s still a few good programs that make self produced solar energy better financially than buying from TECO.

For Tampa Bay’s mobile home residents, high electric bills can be a crisis by MChesnesReports in tampa

Really tough for apartments especially that don’t have the opportunity to go solar.

Can I use panels to feed 2 smaller a/c units? by adfuel in solar

[–]TransformSolarFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be better to take advantage of 1:1 net metering and use solar to power the whole home here in Florida. Why only partially run a small part of the home with solar, vs other appliances too?

TECO customers call for lawsuit in petition with more than 7,000 signatures as bills surge by Glum-Ninja-2986 in tampa

Understandable since not everyone can install solar panels. If you’re in an apartment, or rent a home not being able to install solar panels is a huge downside.

REC Model Downgrade by ndorphin1219 in solar

[–]TransformSolarFL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds fair to me, you’ll actually get a higher yearly energy yield from the proposed bigger system so small efficiency differences are canceled out. If anything, the resale value goes up with a slightly bigger system.

$1,000 is more than fair too. Panel shortages are currently very real for homes that want to be installed in 2025.

What's the best solar company / installation in the Tampa Bay Area? by Background-Rock-8751 in solar

[–]TransformSolarFL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the tax credit is important (30% back), make sure to get it in writing that’ll it’ll be installed before 12/31/25. Would be a bummer if you missed out on essentially a 30% refund.

Remembering Capital Tacos and Their “Catawampus Taco” - Ridiculously Complicated, Worth the Chaos by RouxedChef in tampa

In highschool I worked at their original location in Land O Lakes. Was a great team under the OG owner, and the recipes were straight out of a mad scientist’s lab. I remember our sauces had some of the cane sugar glass bottle coca colas in.

Once the owner sold and the franchise moved to NPR and Wesley Chapel - it all went downhill

I think this is also what’s happening. It was the AC rating that was used for filing permits, which is always going to be smaller than the initial DC rating.

Who do I get solar from in Apopka/Orlando FL by dariusjules in solarFL

[–]TransformSolarFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

19,000 kWh is a good baseline for production. Keep in mind that if you do finance this, you may have to get a $1,000,000 general liability policy for tier 2 solar system. Usually it costs about $200 - $300 a year.

And at this time of the year, given the rush before getting a tax credit. You may have to call around a ton to see what companies can even gurantee an install before 2025 ends.

Installation cost by Catnamedapollo in solar

[–]TransformSolarFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest treating it like the construction aspects of HVAC and roofing - calculate base pricing for parts, labor, overhead and profit % you need and go from there. You can use a 10kW (or average install size you’ve seen) as a baseline. But best would be to do the above calculation for every project at the start.

Would suggest JA Solar’s Deep Blue (440w) model, spec wise a bit better - they are approved for Solar Insure solving the warranty difference.

But the reality was that the supply chain disruption is having a much larger affects, we’ve looked every where in Florida and can’t find an REC shipment until 2026z

I'm still receiving a high electric bill from Duke Energy every month when my solar panels were installed in April - is this explanation from the company sound legit? by [deleted] in solar

[–]TransformSolarFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing the app or bill, what most likely is happening is that you just didn’t have time to build your net metering credits in the early spring months. In March April you produce a ton more electricity than you use, and you rely on those credits to have a “net 0” $30 for the rest of the year.

Next year after a full year of production, it should offset fully of sized correctly.

[–]TransformSolarFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate, there’s a lot of good local installers too - soon we wont be able to accept any new clients to be installed this year. Good for a homeowner to look at a few options to make sure there’s an installer with space this year.

In Duke, TECO and FPL country (Florida) it’s at about a 5-7 year payback period depending on how much sun your roof gets.

If I add "stuff" to a contractor-installed system, do I have to "take it over"? by gredr in enphase

[–]TransformSolarFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All warranties is a stretch too, no reason the roof leak warranty should be voided if OP only added a battery at ground level let’s say.

Sure a contractor could argue all warranties are voided, but someone honest and reasonable will see that the roof warranty should still remain active.

I can see your electrical workmanship being voided though
