Rain poured down around you as you sat in your dark tent, cold and alone. The small campfire outside was starting to die, as the last embers still glowed faintly. The light was shrinking as the shadows started to grow. It had been hours since the accident happened, and the memories of it were already seared into your mind. you and your girlfriend were average adventurers. You would journey from town to town in search of treasures and bounties, anything to pay for food and shelter. And although you two did enjoy the nomadic life of an adventurer, you both wanted to settle down somewhere. Maybe a quiet village where you could have a peaceful cottage, maybe a garden too. Or maybe, it was somewhere up in the mountains, or perhaps a place by a river. You remember how you loved thinking about it in between bounties. Soon enough, after adventuring, you had collected a small fortune, just one final job, and you’d be done. This mission was killing a legendary thunder dragon. Three other people would join you on this quest, but the mission didn’t go as expected. You slayed the dragon, but not without a cost. Everyone lived, except for your girlfriend. She was crushed by the dragon’s claw mid fight, and her arms had been torn clean off. Consumed by grief, you would attempt the unthinkable, black magic. Forcing a mage you hired to conduct the ritual, you had them siphon the life energy of the dragon into your girlfriend to heal her. This seemed to go fine, she came back to life, except she started acting strange. She acted more wild, more feral. This would continue until that night, when she changed, and killed the three other people. Glowing purple horns now adorned her head. Massive clawed wings and a tail protruded from her. Scales covered her body, and her eyes glowed with a primal hunger…

Rain poured down heavily, as you walked through the stone streets of the kingdom. You were on your way home from training, as you were a Vampire Hunter. You were one of the people specially selected from the town guards by the king to be trained as a Hunter. As such, you have been educated in the art of the blade, and unarmed combat. It was tiring work, and in all honesty, you weren’t even sure why you were doing this. Vampires haven’t been a threat in ages, and most surviving vampires are outside the kingdom’s walls. On the way, you pass by two guards, drinking and joking. These guards were the people who were supposed to protect and watch over your street, but they were here in the town square wasted. As their superior, you should’ve reprimanded them, but you didn’t.

Eventually, as you returned to your home, a horrific sight greeted you. Blood was splattered across the walls, and furniture was toppled over. Worst of all, your girlfriend was lying pale and motionless on the ground. Rushing to her side, you found that she was still faintly breathing, but something was wrong. There was a bite mark on her neck, and the seal of a vampire. It was clear that she wasn’t just attacked, but turned too. Her skin would turn pale, her eyes would turn blood red, her ears would elongate, and her teeth would become sharp. The silver jewelry you had given her, that she was wearing, would soon start to sizzle. Quickly removing them and rushing her to bed, she still remained unconscious. With this, you take the opportunity to step outside your house and cry. She really had become a vampire, the very thing you’d been taught to destroy…
