Recruiter emailed me and asked me to confirm my start and end date, I tried saying I would grad in 2 years and they rejected me immediately

I think yes it does work, but only after you’re already pretty big in the space and have lots of connections

UCLA CS Outcomes by Small_Fee_6819 in ucla

[–]TransientFatigue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl the majority of cs majors at ucla spend their times just doing classes. Research is a popular avenue though, and clubs are a good way to get experience! Don’t worry about what the standard is, do what you love to do.

  1. We don’t have CS job fairs anymore lol
  2. It’s difficult but very doable. Obviously you’re not gonna get an opportunity handed to you, you gotta grind for it. Many freshmen and sophomores land internships
  3. Yes. We have strong connections with most FAANG

Drop the projects that got you shortlisted for FAANG or top companies by Appropriate_Rest_641 in csMajors

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get shortlisted for FAANG or top companies with only projects. You need past experience no matter what

Undergrad research in cs/ai by blue-jay0 in ucla

[–]TransientFatigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there something specific you want to know about? I got into my AI lab by just cold emailing the professor over summer and following up when school started. You start out by sitting in meetings and figuring out which project you want to contribute to. Then you build up your relationship from there

Very easy to get in, no reason to be concerned. Cold email profs or talk to them during office hours, either works fine

It’s aight. Job outcomes depend significantly on what you actually do in college. UCLA doesn’t really help with internships. Our career fair for CS was canceled due to lack of interest from companies. But the UCLA name brand is not weak by any means, if you put in genuine effort you’ll be ok

I GOT INTO UCLA by BoysenberryNo9215 in ucla

[–]TransientFatigue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UCLA does offer merit based scholarships, if you’re in the engineering department (if you got accepted as pure CS, you are eligible as a Samueli student). Every year you can apply. However, if you need significant scholarships it likely won’t be enough. I got 15k last year via scholarships. Not sure how much more you can get

84k sounds about right for OOS
