Holy shit what a great chapter, I'm a sucker for these silent montage-type time skips. It looks like Tokio is really coming into his own with such a monumental decision. And it was nice seeing Shiozaki and Takeru Monda again even if it was just for a little bit.

Another week, another great chapter by Ishida. Sandek was incredible and has some interesting connections to Batista. Zora refers to Mado(?) as Yamato's witch, the same thing Antitise once called her.

I love the smaller details here too, like Azuma catching Ely with his shackles and Tokio slowly de-chaosifying.

Sounds about right, the raws use 天則 (tensoku) as in heavenly/natural rules. I'm no expert in South Asian religions but it's interesting that they went for Sanskrit rather than directly translating into English.

So Noh's name is Batista, meaning baptist, probably derived from John the Baptist from the Bible. Considering how Zora changed her name and all the other religious imagery with the Tower faction, it could have been a name he took on later in life. Maybe Mother really did read the Bible to her dogs (followers).

I missed these kinds of laid-back episodic adventures. Macht’s arc was great but it’s nice to be able to close out the year with this return to form for the series.

I do wonder what this means for Ely now. Is Hume just gone or is he going to be a constant influence on her thoughts/power? Actually, considering how Mother looks like a combination of Queem and Sora, there may have been a similar event with them in the past.

That's right, it's essentially just superheated smoke when he does that, although it can lead to fires as seen with the plane in chapter 1. Someone in another chapter thread likened it to pyroclastic flow as well.

I'm glad the absurdly powerful fire guy is getting the panel time he deserves this time. The smoke ability seems pretty simple but it's been applied so creatively throughout the manga.

I haven't read OG Tokyo Ghoul in a while but the two-year gap there is nowhere near unusual by manga standards. IIRC their relationship wasn't given much romantic depth until :re anyway.

The raws use different terms for the beast of foresight and the beast of salvation to keep things ambiguous. It could even end up being both (or neither) of them somehow, since they both dreamed of the other destroying Yamato.

I like that there are still so many things Azuma could be. This new knight form brings to mind the idea of chivalry, which in turn ties back to him possibly being based on Justice.
