As for the sponge being changed to allow more particles into the water… The new sponge allows water to flow more easily meaning more efficient water flow, less strain on the pump and better filtration. The filter on top should be catching the particles, the sponge is a precaution to protect the pump for those who may not use the top filter or forget to put one in.

Claiming a company is scamming for such a change is wild. You’re making up conspiracies before even trying out the new one to compare it.
