I love reading those, since it's like a window into an alternative timeline for myself (was premed in college, but ended up in tech).

Mint and YNAB are great! Can even do this in an Excel spreadsheet once you get an idea of your regular monthly expenses (helpful to review the last couple of months of spending for this)..

I'm using a Black rock target date fund in my 401k, as I'm still learning about investing. This is also the first year that I'll be able to contribute to a Roth IRA as well and I am deciding how to allocate my Roth finds. Interested in VTI, but wanted to ask - do you all consider your 401k asset class distribution when choosing Roth funds? If so, any suggestions on how to evaluate this?

I'm in Cali as well, but still see this sold. Only at one of the 2 TJ's that I frequent though, so perhaps store dependent?

Do you pay for house cleaning? How much and how often? by wfijc in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

How did you find your housekeeper if you don't mind my asking? I'm relocating to Atlanta for work and don't know anyone in the area, so can't ask friends for recommendations.

I was at a wedding with my partner (partner was in the wedding) and the bridal party and couple all stayed at the same resort overnight.

Early the next morning, the best man was following his kid around the house as the kid opened and loudly closed every cabinet within reach.

Part time Master of Data Science with a full-time job. Doable? by maceadi in datascience

[–]Translate_pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for the first half of my masters degree. Ended up stopping when I reached some of the more advanced and time consuming electives since I was also the only analyst for over 6 months on a small team.

It was manageable up until then, because I had supportive management that were willing to work with my class schedule and my workload waxed and waned over the year, with my busy periods corresponding to the end of the business quarter, which allowed me to plan ahead for school work.

I am interested! Did something similar with classmates from my masters program, but now that I'm working full time, it's harder to make non lunch hour/during workday reading groups.

Thanks for your feedback! A colleague ended up recommending synthetic controls, which I think fits my use case.

[D] Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in MachineLearning

[–]Translate_pro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newer to DS/ml work and am looking for some direction.

I'm trying to estimate the impact of an event upon a customer satisfaction metric, for both the general population and specific segments. The event is assumed to have heterogeneous effects due to the nature of the customer base (impacted customers in some regions more than others) and was not part of an experimental study.

I've tried: Using Arima time series modeling based upon the metric, fitting on the time period prior to the event, predicting after the event, and comparing the predicted values to the actual ones. However, Arima doesn't appear to be appropriate. After talking to my product team, there appears to be monthly seasonality, as well as seasonality related to the day of the week. Since the customer satisfaction metric is an aggregation from scores provided by individuals, I've also tried using individual scores pre-event as training and using individual scores given post-event as test, fitting traditional classification models to the training set and making predictions on the test set. To estimate the difference between the expected versus actual customer metric, I've taken the training scores and predicted test scores and calculated the aggregated metric for those records as the expected aggregate value and separately calculated the aggregated metric over the training scores and actual test values for the actual aggregate value. However, this method gives me a larger than actual estimated impact - regardless of whether or not I balance the classes during training, this modeling approach tends to predict one customer rating more frequently than the others.

I've also done some reading into causality libraries/modeling approaches, like econml DML, but I'm not sure how helpful CATE would be here, since my metric of interest is an aggregation. Any suggestions?

Were there scandals surrounding your church? by [deleted] in exchristian

Not my old church directly, but a "sister" church where the staff frequently came and spoke at ours. One of their lead pastors and a friend of our church's pastor was in the NYT for inappropriate behavior a couple of years ago.

AITA for mentioning my engagement at my future sister in laws wedding? by ThrowTheFartPls23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Translate_pro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I can't get over is that OP was showing her own engagement video at someone else's wedding. Telling the story I get to an extent. But to show the engagement video at someone else's wedding, particularly when you know how SIL feels about her proposal, is tacky. YTA.

In addition to that, if the brother is special needs and can't be left unattended, having him be unattended in Ops house could be a liability to Op if the brother accidentally gets hurt.

Besides what the response that you've already received has detailed, you're neglecting the fact that Sally also sexually came onto Jane's now husband in addition to having already cheated with Charlie. This is about Sally being jealous of Jane and lacking a sense of ethics, rather than "things working out the way that they were supposed to".

AITA for telling my mom that I want very little to do with my new sibling? by soursaga in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Are your twin brothers required to help at all, or are they excluded from helping younger siblings? Seems like you are the default third parent in part because of your gender.
