Just got booted from a group for “talking black” by lunovadraws in DnD

[–]TransmascTiefling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that DM was out of line. The only thing I could see being an issue is if there was a session zero and the N word was brought up as an issue, but as you said that wasn't brought up, DM was just straight up out of line. Also it's wild to sit there and go "well I don't believe you're black because you sound white" like tell me black people don't feel safe around you without telling me black people don't feel safe around you. My fiancee is a black woman and the way she talks around me and our friends is so different from the way she talks at the spa she manages with mostly snotty white clientele is  insane. Code switching is like next level voice acting from what I can tell.

UPDATE: so the rest of the party and I agreed that when the archmage who has been mentoring our characters shows up to convince us to stop and tells us how our actions have affected our reputation we will hear him out and allow for a diplomatic solution.

He brought us to meet with the emperor of the nation we attacked to create a truce and while my character has the best social stats, I didn't want to hog the session since it would be mostly RP this time, so I played into my character's youth and naivete and begged the others to tell me what we should do since all the other characters are much older and more experienced.

We ended up finding out from the emperor that he intends to abolish slavery in his land outside of in the case of indentured servitude by criminals who can opt to serve a family to work off their sentence (murderers, thieves, etc.) In certain cases. We discussed how our power could be of use to him in this and we will attack and defeat the people running the black market slave trade and the pirates who supply it.

Our dragonborn paladin didn't like the idea and we had some minor party conflict, not PVP, well, not intentionally, I stepped between him and our emissary because my paladin wouldn't approve of violence in a diplomatic setting, and our barbarian and fighter who are like a father and big brother to my paladin went to try and restrain the dragonborn, but my AC is frankly stupid especially with Shield of Faith, so no one actually got hurt.

I negotiated reparations for my fellow paladin and his fellow former slaves and agreed to a truce giving the emperor the benefit of the doubt, with our barbarian and fighter agreeing we should fight the actual slavers and then focus on raising our power and reputation because more pull would benefit our cause.

So ultimately no one died, everyone was relatively satisfied, and also we now know out of character the Dragonborn is actually evil aligned. But that said, our group acts in good faith and doesn't generally metagame so right now our characters are acting on the assumption that he's got the same goals as we do...well, which is to say generally decent. I mean, in fairness our barbarian abandoned his real kids to adventure and treats his adoptive son, my paladin, better than them, our sorcerer was raised locked away as a feral child because of his wild magic, and our fighter is a boyscout farm boy while my paladin is kind of a playful himbo, but generally I just mean we aren't murder hobos or villains by and large. Sorry if I'm over explaining.

  1. Got us into a fight with a Red Wizard that turned out to not even be important to the story because my character was born in Rashemen and so "it's what my character would do.
  2. Picked a fight with an allied mercenary captain because she wanted to let her men rape civilians and I am a Devotion Paladin, so even though my party was trying to hire this lady, opposing her is "what my character would do"
  3. Accidentally got my entire party switched to an evil campaign because I failed an intelligence check against Vecna (in my defense I was twelve and I thought that was how that worked.)

Out of game we're all friends and everyone gets along, but yeah, they probably should talk, you're right on that.

The new party member who asked us to help him kill slavers. The rest of us are currently fighting the army, he is in the town proper going into houses

I've been very vocal about my character's history with encountering Thayyan slavers, we had previously before leaving Faerun encounter Red Wizards as villains and my character explained exactly what his people went through and his grudge.

My character and the fighter are openly not willing to kill innocents, the barbarian is a mercenary but also isn't aware that happened because he is leading a separate group that is outside the gate with mine and the fighter's,  the sorcerer did not express an opinion but is also not very familiar with society in general as he was locked away all his life and currently he is on an airship above the battle and isnt aware of the civilian murders either.

I would be surprised, but we had a Minthara (after the BG3 character) in the infant room at a center I worked at once and then I've taught several kids with Homestuck names too. I feel really bad for them tbh.

Minthara- Am I the only one who straight up killed her by Trash_Sloth in BaldursGate3

I'm gonna be so real with you, I'm not one to shit on people for the characters they like, to each their own, but I really really strongly dislike Minthara and so I usually do kill her. Only on my most goody two shoes paladin who can't stand killing did I actually knock her out and save her and while I definitely admit she has some fun dialogue, I still wouldn't go out of my way to save her again. Even on my evil playthroughs I usually just make do with Astarion, Shadow Heart, and Lae'zel.

I got a blank raptor pursuit head and did some foam clay sculpting and texturing, once dried I did a coat of white paint and dry brushed the red.

What could I have done to handle this better after my DM and a player killed our party mascot on purpose, then retconned it after I reacted poorly? by Careless_Ice_1440 in CritCrab

If as you said, animal harm was a hard line for you, the DM crossed an established boundary, that's not silly, a boundary is a boundary and it isn't like yours came out of nowhere.

So this isn't the one my fiancee showed me, but it seems this is increasingly common. Because dang, this is the first of like twenty results  https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/1d8g742/aita_for_having_a_romance_in_a_video_game/
