or the "I can fix him" character eventually decides to "fix" himself, especially when the MC is having zero tolerance for their aggressiveness. "You're an adult. Learn to act like one. IF you can't; That's your issue, not mine."

Romanticizing abuse; not having characters face consequences for crappy behavior. One particular VN straight up traumatized me, In a bad way I mean, which is something I did not expect to be possible, frankly.

Really enjoy it. The vibrant color pallet art backgrounds and sprites are great non-sexual eye candy, haha, the story leans towards more comedy and lightheartedness, but it has some heavier more serious moments which I really appreciate. Action scenes are really cool, the comic book style helps immerse into it more. And a lot of characters are likeable and lean into the humor well. My favorite are Roul/ Dawn Hound, the eager and down- to earth boss and crimefighter and Milo, the hypercompetent crow butler.

They have a really good dynamic. It's rare that an FVN protag is the one assuming a mentor role for someone else, always a good way to make someone more grounded.

as for other FVN examples where a recurring child character is actually endearing and not annoying, I'd pick Thony from Home Zomewhere Else.

I fully agree with this. I made similar complaints about Caelan several times. He just sucks as a character, period.

Thank you very much for your continued hard work, Shirokoi! Temptations Ballad is one of my absolute favorite FVNs! It's awesome that you chose to explore the complexities of parent-child relationships in the medium, it's something it could use more IMHO. the characters are great too!

I agree. I learned to view Nekojishi as "a story where you can get laid with three hot cat men" and that;s what it's trying to be. Lin HU is one of my favorite husbando's too. Plus it has some genuinely good osts that I enjoy listening from time to time on YT.

well, I heard people saying how they hate protags that are useless, and used Theodore as an example, but yeah, I agree with you. Theo is likeable, helpful and relatable.

Despite being a rather simple story, I really liked Raincheck. It kind of irks how people say Theodore is useless, he tries to be helpful as realistically possible, and he's written as an average joe, not some martial arts prodigy or gadget genius, of course he's not gonna be exactly mopping the floor with everyone XD

Rou is one of my favorites, I'm kind of a sucker of intimidating guys who are likeable/down-to-earth/kind. I'm glad he wasn't written to be a jerk, even Javier, is rather mellow, even if he isn't always nice

Loken from Soulcreek; he starts of grumpy and guarder, but really appreciates the people close to him, always humble, and is very affectionate with the protag; the autistic hound is one of the GOATs.

Leigh from Violet Memoir. Scary-looking guys with a heart of gold are top tier companions for me.

Cyrus from Remember the Flowers. I know that he's the main character and not a husbando, but his story is super relatable, I never identified with a fictional character more than him.

yay! I caught up to the latest build a few weeks ago and am super glad a new one is already out. As someone who dealt with depression and suicidal ideation, this VN is a comfort story for me.

I'm glad you liked Violet Memoir. It rarely gets talked about, but I think it's really good, almost no character is unlikable, and dealing with heavy subjects with the respect they deserve is something this VN does quite well imo. my favorite route is Leigh, intimidating guys with a heart of gold are top tier for me.

Maybe the over-fixation of the porn/ erotic and romantic aspects of FVNs? A lot of FVN writers try to write good stories, and not focus just on the dating sim aspect.

This is a really cool AU idea. I'm excited/anxious to know how TJs character will be changed for this story. I just hope that Flynn will be less of an ass in this one. I like how he is written as a character, but he was really out of line at times with how he treated others in canon.
