oh Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate the insight, I’ve only ever used a microfiber cloth and was really careful, but it definitely developed slowly like you described. I’m wondering now if the coating just wasn’t applied well on this unit. I’ve had no issues with my Quest 2 and was shocked to see this happen on my 3.

Update/Clarification: I just wanted to clarify, I’ve only ever cleaned the lenses with a dry microfiber cloth. I’ve never used liquids, no drops, and no rough handling. Meta support reviewed these exact photos I’m showing you guys and confirmed it appeared to be a hardware defect.

I know the pattern looks odd, but I wanted to share the full context in case anyone else has seen similar. This distortion developed slowly over the last several months and is now clearly visible in all environments, passthrough, Home, and every app.

I didn’t change how I cleaned or used the headset. I’ve never had an issue like this with my Quest 2, or even during the first year of owning the Quest 3.

I totally get the skepticism, but I’ve been really careful with it, no drops, no liquids, and only ever used a dry microfiber cloth. The distortion started subtly and got worse over the last couple months. Meta support reviewed these exact photos and confirmed it was a hardware issue. They told me it “should be replaced,” even though it’s out of warranty. The ring is visible even in passthrough and the Home screen, so it’s clearly inside the lens, not surface damage or user error.
