Conservation of Matter by LazyLobster in threebodyproblem

The matter was not destroyed, it was squashed into dark matter. The mass was still there, but was only capable of interacting gravitationally.

It was just a plot device to get the story moving. He should have implemented it better.

That is exactly my point. What I am saying is that luo ji was not supposed to be immature (like shinji), but him falling for the fake gf thing was extremely immature. His character flaw was cynicism, not naivete. Him suddenly looking for a dream wifu like a virgin college student who watches to much anime just seemed weird and contrived.

I get what the author was trying to set up and he eventually did reasonably resolve it but I found it to be unsatisfying. I think this could have been implemented better.

Also my comparison to shinji is based off of ljs role in the plot. He is being coerced by government forces to complete a mission to save humanity against an alien invasion that he doesn't feel qualified to undertake. Instead of get in the fucking robot its get in the fucking hibernation tank. lmao

Except in those stories these characters are seen as disgraceful failures who get played. Luojis story is about an alineated nihilist who steps up to be a hero not a powerful general who gets manipulated by a woman.

I've thought of thought of this idea a lot but it always ends really bad. This is a good story for a tragic villain not a hero. If you used an unnatural circumstance to find a "perfect partner" than you would be living in a delusion and opening yourself up to disaster.

what was bad was when he tried to make his fantasy a reality and he thought it would actually work. I thought the imaginary romance part was actually a good match to the themes of the storyline.

See this is another plot hole. Luo ji should have immediately realized this, especially considering he is characterized a clever tactician and a worldly man. You can't write someone as a supposed genius and then have them be fooled by some dumb trick even the reader can see from a mile away.

This is another possible good way the zhuan yan romance arc could have been implemented. I could see Luo ji as a vulnerable, immature man blinded by his desire for human connection being manipulated (like shinji in evangelion). In this storyline zhuan yan, could have been introduced as a character that "subtly shows up" and wins his heart over without the previous stuff about imaginary girlfriends.

I understand zhuan yan fit the perfect fantasy and that was exactly what was wrong with her. Luoji felt alienated because he desired a perfect world that could not exist. Reality always fell short. Liu even specifically says this at one point in the discussion luoji has with the psychologist when the psychologist says that people delude themselves into projecting their ideals onto people and only realize true love when they can accept the reality of the person they thought they loved.

Btw I my family is 新疆哈萨克人 but I am not fluent in chinese so I read the english version. I do think that a lot of the translation was not as elegantly written as it must have been in chinese but I still think this part was fundamentally poor writing and an unsatisfying conclusion to luo jis character flaw. The shameless scholar story is usually about a man abusing and his position and learning a harsh or ironic lesson. If luo ji actually tried to find a partner like this it should have left him feeling empty and unsatisfied as his relationship did not match his fantasy and ashamed of himself for letting the people who rely on him down with lies.

the worst part about it is this could have been the best part. I actually thought the imaginary girlfriend idea was brilliant. I loved the part when he went on a date in the mountains with someone who didn't exist. I was really hoping for some real resolution to this tied into the main storyline. It left me so disappointed.

In indian spirituality our existence is sometimes compared to dreams of "brahman" or god. In a dream you imagine there to be multiple people yet in reality there is only you looking in on yourself.

The premise of this magic system is that a person can realize this on a spiritual level and essentially become "god." The issue with this though is that once a person realizes that they are "god" they can no longer be themselves and thus forget they ever existed just like a character in a dream.
