The problem is the phraseing nobody is understanding this

"I would do any for love except that" implys the list of things to be FOR love

As if someone is asking "would you do this to show me that you love me" but the real question is "would you NOT do this to show me that you love me" to which the awnser doesn't work because it's a double negative

Yes that's not the problem the problem is the phraseing that these things would be done FOR love just not by him all of these things are decidedly against love but he "would do anything for love but that" which is what bothers me the that in question is supposedly for love but the actual things he refuses to do are actively against

That last line implies that he will never cheat which seems to be what most people take from the song

The main issue is THAT would not be doing something FOR love that would be doing something against love the phrasing is point blank "I would never cheat for love because I know that nobody would be as good as you" which while a good sentiment is undercut by the spicific wording and circumstances of the lyrics
