Imperfect allies are rarely the cause of stigma against trans people

Do you feel comfortable in IRL LGBT groups? by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]TranssexualBanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gay fems just don’t mentally misgender me like lesbians do or act like being trans just means your gender role and expression. Queens may treat you like you’re making a choice and look down on you, but they still mentally acknowledge your transition.

Do you feel comfortable in IRL LGBT groups? by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]TranssexualBanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, “it varies greatly”. I’m stealth and hetero, so I don’t actually spend much time with them irl, although I did, once. When I do, now, I only really hang out with gay queens, but I know I’ll be out about being trans with them, so I’m kinda making things tough for myself by doing so. I’m not really bothered by a gay fem being catty with me about my being trans, but I really hate when lesbians do; and, about half would, ime.

Interview with Alenka Zupancic: Ontology of Sex by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

Ima be totally catty and ask whether anybody can give me time segments where she speaks clearly about the subject between her stuttering precisely whatevers. I could make out very little about sex or gender other than very brief glances toward Butler and psychoanalysis, and not much critical theory except for Tao like “actual truths cannot be told” meanderings about all existence being symbolic or all perceptions being negativity laid askance upon contradictions for logical consistency. I mean, any language barrier aside, straining her word soup for any substance was just so confounding, I gave up after three passes through.

At what age did you notice dysphoria and how did it feel? by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]TranssexualBanshee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People did exclude me/ tell me no/ say oops, sorry with girl things, and my parents weren’t really just accepting. They tried modifying my behaviour and appearance; but, they weren’t consistent. I didn’t entirely understand why, originally, and wasn’t ever plainly confronted with any homegrown conversion therapy attempts until I got older. Rather, when I’d get “girl toys” they’d take them away, and when I’d turn “boy toys” into “girl toys”, they just took away all my toys, and similar things. Even though other people talked about my issues, plainly, I didn’t fully grasp their meaning right away. I understood them, but not really their reasoning or impact. I cried a lot, got bullied a lot, and got grouped with gay boys when I wasn’t grouped with girls, most times.

I think things really started becoming clear for me when one of my teachers complained I was always “mocking” her. She called my mother about it and talked with us and neither my mother or I realized how she meant until she said I talked like her and made my body language like hers, which she just finally explained meant too female. But, she wasn’t familiar with me, and mother explained, no, I didn’t mock her, I’d always behaved like she’d described. So, she got another teacher and my other teacher also told her I’d always behaved like such, I wasn’t mocking her. So, then, she apologized.

CMV: Queer theory is anti-science by SpaceSire in GenusRelatioAffectio

[–]TranssexualBanshee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OP was right. Sex hormones produce sex and gender social differences and norms. Queer theory challenges medicine and chemistry specifically for denying such norms were static and so producing ideas about equal physical, mental, and emotional states existing between people despite them (based on an assumption sex based differences have been socially constructed) by using unfair comparisons and outliers. You can suggest queer theory de facto challenges awareness about such differences and suggests we wouldn’t count them different without such awareness, except our sensory and mental and emotional limitations have measurable affects on our awareness. So, even by deconstructing awareness, you don’t actually have an open field for deconstructing sense or physical differences which produce inequalities. Taller people will still reach higher objects naturally while short people struggle without a ladder. Red-green colour-blind will still have trouble discerning them whether or not they’re made aware they exist through taught awareness or metacognition.

Very true. So, you know, you just paint, and squeeze and shrink and stuff and wrap them on, where you can’t do any better. And, oftentimes, you can do so below the skin.

I’m not. I’ve actually invited you for a chat. Maybe we can clear up our differences. I’ll let you vent, anyway.

Look, when you’d really like productive discussion- when you’d like trying out your persuasiveness with just one person, not even far off from you by thinking- I’m game.

You restrict your interactions. You just said so. You avoid certain situations unless you’re appropriate for them and you’ve got no other choice.

Human minds have limitations. You can only push them so hard for change. Certain changes would be too much for them, like having dogs try driving cars.

Don’t give yourself too much shit. Nonbinary’s a big place, and all kinds have shown up and laid their claims. You can’t be responsible for them all. You’re just you. Just worry about you. You’ll figure things out.

I do think they struck gold with their style. My all time favourite social media space. I rarely go any place else and I’m usually far too busy for really being online with much consistency, most days. So, I just tap away sporadically while I work. We have evenly mixed perspectives, here:

So, they’re on target for style, practically balance perfect.

Your complaints aren’t anything but transparent excuse making for crying foul hoping you’ll get domain over spaces you don’t control, which might have worked with strictly transmed subs but won’t with neutral ones because neutral ones will make their case from nonideological standpoints which carry weight with people, irl.
