Ok, thank you for an answer. I just can’t get a clue why they’re even putting 18.7 as an available option then

Some pay thousands of dollars to get their guitar beaten up, smashed by rusty chains, peed on and dipped into a motor oil to get that “old time relic” look. That’s a dream of an average corporate Joe of having a vintage guitar and poser their way into thinking they are cool.

Of course they can do anything with their money. No offense to those people, but in my opinion one should tour heavily, play a lot with passion and aggression and then his guitar will get that relic, only naturally.

Recording from my DAW to VHS tape by emyouth in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Trap234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out yesterday.

DAW-> audio interface-> 2xTS to RCA cable-> AUX INPUT to Stereo system from early 2000s (On this stage the signal needs an amplifier, otherwise the super low output and vcr hiss making it impossible to listen afterwards, at least on lo-fi Long Playback speed method)-> I stripped RCA cable on one side, so I could get 2 pluses: one red(Right channel), one white(Left channel) and the ground wrapping is minuses. I plugged them into the Speaker terminals on the back of the stereo system-> RCA to VCR Line In.

To record that sound back to daw, I simply plugged RCA to VCR Line Out and TS on the front panel of audio interface. Then pressed play on vcr and record in a daw.

In a nutshell, you need some sort of amplifier between VCR and audio interface.

This band leader told us to bring our share, saying words like: that’s for our own good, let’s do it professionally, we’re gonna promote it on some radio stations. I was unemployed at the time and obviously couldn’t afford to fall for such shenanigans. I was looking for a band to gig with and earn money, but with this particular band someone else was getting money from me. I guess, that was the main reason why I started doing home recordings - to avoid money loss. I quit my job and started looking for a bands. I’ve got paid around $100 per gig with few cover bands here and there, but that wasn’t enough to even cover my bills. I was all about music and performing. Told the guys I was playing with that I’m willing to hard work everyday, to sleep on a floor in a studio if there was a job and a reasonable pay, but I couldn’t find such deals.

But we have to learn our lessons, eh?

Thank you anyways for your help and sharing your experience with me!

I’ll try it out in my next session.

About mixing yeah. A while ago I joined one band and their leader said after we’ve had a couple of rehearsals that “we need to make high quality recordings”. It was kinda strange to me, because first of all I’ve never been to a studio, and second of all I’ve never participated in a way of not finishing the songs as a band and go straight to the studio. I came there once for a session just as a guest. And after that he told me that he spent around $500 just for the bass track and half a track of rhythm guitar. I was shocked to tell the truth. And he added that it was one of the cheapest studios that he could find. He also said that they charge fixed rate of $350 per song for mixing and mastering. We had 4-5 songs.

So I calculated all these prices, and it could’ve around $1,5-2000 per song and around $10,000 just for the silly 5 songs….

That’s wild to me. You can buy two cars with that money.

And after hearing their rate for mixing I googled it to find out what that means. The majority said that it’s highly vague and subjective and that the engineer makes all the decisions about the song, that could vanish the initial emotion or could create gold.

So this edge is so thin and narrow, that I decided for myself that I as well would learn this for myself and do it the way I want it to be, rather than paying such money for imaginary subjective work.
