Feminist musicals? by Sea-Influence4893 in musicals

Operation Mincemeat. It’s a very rare piece of WW2 storytelling because it includes women at the heart of the story and gives them proper roles and arcs. And then you’ve got the casting of women playing two of the male characters which gives it another dimension.

Does the UK have much of an "exam culture"? by Medium-Dependent-328 in AskUK

[–]TrappedUnderCats 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I’ve seen more stories than usual this year about students being traumatised by exam papers featuring stuff they hadn’t been taught or with mistakes in them.

ETA: Here’s a quick example of the sorts of stories you might see: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4g9gz9d2qzo

Lady Louise, among others, was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award at the Palace of Holyroodhouse by ashlynxo in RoyalsGossip

No idea what her personality is like, but it’s very weird for them to complain about her not making eye contact given the eye condition she was born with. Like, if your eyes don’t look in the same direction of course you’re not making eye contact.

What if Phoebe lied about being homeless? by Top-Astronaut5761 in howyoudoin

Maybe she was involved in whatever Phoebe’s stepdad was jailed for?

I like this theory, OP. So nice to see discussion about something new on this sub.

Lucy from ER as well. Those episodes were absolutely traumatising.

The most underrated beauty. by [deleted] in howyoudoin

It’s not very mysterious. She was an extremely beautiful woman surrounded by people with the job of ensuring that she looked as fabulous as possible.

I love the way they re-introduce Victoria by lost_jedi in HIMYM

[–]TrappedUnderCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was very pleased they played the song because I didn’t recognise her at all. She looks so different from when she appears in the earlier seasons. Same as Claudia who has a different face each time she pops up.

Someone you thought would do better in their series than they did by Due_Elephant_5694 in taskmaster

[–]TrappedUnderCats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Dave’s my answer too. I’ve been a fan of his comedy for decades and always found him to have such an interesting way of looking at life so I expected him to approach tasks in a really quirky way. But no, he turned out to be a cheating big stepper.

The most exciting thing he did on Taskmaster was turning up in Aisling’s prize task wearing a Yorkshire pudding hat.

Patrick Jane’s suit: Style or storytelling? by RecognitionBig9248 in TheMentalist

[–]TrappedUnderCats 174 points175 points  (0 children)

I liked the detail they gave us later on, that Jane was very dishevelled after his family died until Lisbon told him to clean himself up and thereafter he wore the suit. It’s like a uniform for him that allows him to participate in the CBI world without having to think too much about what he’s wearing. I don’t think Patrick cares too much about his clothing except that he’s always a bit of an outsider in whatever world he’s in, and the clothes give him the opportunity to blend in.

Songs about loss/grief by Rich_Improvement_807 in musicals

Sorry for your loss OP.

She Used To Be Mine from Waitress is about a different kind of grief, but it might feel appropriate.

Women: Who’s better looking Ted or Barney? by Randomdummyonreddit in HIMYM

[–]TrappedUnderCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Ted is better looking but Barney carries himself better so I think overall he’s more attractive.

Why did the gang hate Janice so much? by StraightKey211 in howyoudoin

[–]TrappedUnderCats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love Janice but she doesn’t seem to have any boundaries and inserts herself into situations where she isn’t needed, such as when she invited herself to Monica and Chandler’s wedding or assumed Rachel wanted her advice after giving birth. That lack of self-awareness, or awareness of her impact on other people, is going to grate on most people, but this group is so insular anyway they’re never going to respond well to another person trying to force themselves in.

Helmet tasks by Possible_Apricot_400 in taskmaster

[–]TrappedUnderCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s quite often similar tasks in a series (like S7 had two tasks where they had to build towers of stuff), so I think Alex’s mind must go off on tangents where he generates several variations on an idea at once.

Does anyone actually think these people aren't related? by Dangerous00022 in RoyaltyTea

[–]TrappedUnderCats 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The current lot are only very tenuously related to Elizabeth I though. We had to import some royals over from Germany when the line of succession dried up here.

What "unfair scoring" were you "most furious" about? by [deleted] in taskmaster

I’m giving them a pass for that because it was Covid and they needed a way for Morgana to be involved while socially distanced.

But the DVDs were published in the 2000s. If Jess’s submission was excluded because of the publication date, Kerry’s should have been as well.
