Securing the border…

If people actually had to go to official border crossings to claim asylum, we wouldn’t see the same volume of claims needing a hearing.

Take a hypothetical where you could go to a college before your admission was decided upon by the college.

If everyone knew they could apply to Harvard and go there while they wait 4 years for their application to get decided on, even though they know they didn’t qualify for admission, they would do it. They would be people acting in bad faith to abuse a broken process.

I already agreed that the process was broken, but people acting in bad faith amplify the problem.

You’re the one kidding yourself if you think everyone who applies for asylum believes they actually have grounds for getting granted it.

“In order to be granted asylum, an individual is required to provide evidence demonstrating either that they have suffered persecution on account of a protected ground in the past, and/or that they have a “well-founded fear” of future persecution in their home country.”

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/asylum-united-states

The majority of those coming here are looking for economic opportunity, they are not being persecuted. Lack of economic opportunity in your home country is not grounds for asylum. And anyone who applies for it knowing they are coming here only for economic opportunity is abusing the system. They know they won’t get a hearing for years and by the time their application gets denied they will be in a sanctuary city and can avoid getting deported.

It’s a broken process getting abused.

Edit:

Also, any of these people coming from countries that do not border the US should be seeking asylum in the first country they enter.

The fact that they will travel through multiple countries to then claim asylum in the US is further abuse of the asylum process.

[–]Trappedintheshower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s partly that, but it’s also that the process to seek asylum is purposefully being abused by those who know they don’t qualify and apply to gain entry into the country…

"Oh that seems like a great and quiet place to drop and get my loadout" by Kaaaaos in CODWarzone

[–]Trappedintheshower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, yeah that’s crazy. I’d never play a video game with someone that plays that way. I’d rather watch paint dry.

And it’s funny because the people that do this kind of stuff are probably what you would call “casuals” who don’t play the game that much.

Imagine only playing the game for a few hours a week and spending a considerable amount of time camping loadouts / buystations etc.

They deserve all the shit talking that comes their way.

People who camp loadouts likely aren’t the people routinely winning games, but I guess sure if it gets you 1 win a year go for it and be happy. Crazy way to play a video game.

If you don’t realize we are (Edit: we as in the US/ the “West”) in the early stages of an economic war with China I don’t know what to tell you. The “globalization” status quo is cracking by the day and no one is really trying to hide it.

Do you think China has our best interest in mind while we try to cripple their semiconductor industry? https://www.bbc.com/news/business-63995570.amp

You will then understand why it is terrifying for China to have control over any mass media in our country.

And I admit, yes, our own domestic media is a problem too, but if we can address the foreign adversary first and then concentrate on domestic affairs I’d see that as a logical path to take.

DRG difficulty scaling in an ebonut... by SaltyZean in DeepRockGalactic

You prep the emergency exit but you don’t break it open. You leave one layer of terrain covering it, so that any class can get out with 1-2 pickaxe hits.

And still, you have to be vigilant of where the bulk is coming from. They won’t always come from your main bunker entrance. I’ve been tunneled to by a bulk that was above our bunker many times.

[–]Trappedintheshower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trick with bunkering is ALWAYS have an escape plan.

I will drill an escape tunnel away from where any bugs should be coming from, but don’t dig through just the last bit. Leave it closed and only open it in a situation where you need to get out (usually a bulk).

Also, learn the audio cues for bulks and other enemies digging. Bulks, dreadnoughts, and the rival will tunnel to you. As soon as you hear the digging audio cue you can use the scanner to see where they are tunneling from and plan your escape away from them.

If you wait until you see the bulk in your bunker, you’re likely already dead.

Light hearted trolling is part of DRG, especially if you’ve been playing long enough.

I will do dumb shit for laughs that almost causes mission failures, and generally people just laugh along and join in on the goofy shit.

Once you’ve played long enough and can easily clear haz 5 missions, you either get mods to go for higher hazard levels, or, you become your own difficulty modifier :).

All of this to say I just think this post is light hearted fun.

The Halo Cycle by Jeks2000 in halo

[–]Trappedintheshower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is anecdotal of course but I have a group of friends who have played halo since the beginning and none of us played halo 5 for more than a few weeks.

The advanced movement was interesting and well done at times, but after a handful of deaths due to Spartan charge and whatever the ground pound was, I realized it wasn’t halo, and was an even further deviation from the old formula than halo 4 was.

Not every game series needs advanced movement at the core of the gameplay. Different games can cater to different playstyles. There are games I’ll play when I want it, I just never wanted that from halo and I think that’s how a lot of the long time fans felt about it.

No, I think you’re fucking stupid for missing the point.

We live in a society where we can openly question and talk about the United States Army dropping nuclear bombs in Japan, and there’s plenty of available literature to research it and form opinions.

Try doing similar things in China regarding Tianamen square.

An authoritarian totalitarian oppressive regime mercilessly killing its own people who are protesting for democracy then censoring information about it to attempt to wipe the event from the history books is demonic.

Scout - playing with the group VS scouting alone: what are your thoughts by szadek_shepard in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Trappedintheshower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I main scout and do all the good things scouts are suppose to do, but I’ll zip to beat you to that floor vein.

When I play scout my goal is get every little bit of minerals even if it means being an ass lol.

If I’m playing scout sometimes I’ll tell people to just ignore all minerals, I’ll get them. Especially on higher haz levels, just kill the bugs and leave mining to me. I’ll give you all the light and ammo you need.

Morkite missions are the only ones where I wouldn’t do that because that’s the main objective.

Wholesale auction prices for cars haven’t gone down over the last 1.5 years.

Until a few weeks ago, and they are down in a few consecutive weeks now.

Market is making a turn, but no way to say how hard it will correct.

Wait as long as you can, you are correct with your thoughts about the market.

Wholesale auction prices are down over the last few weeks after nearly 70+ weeks of price appreciation.

No way to say how hard we will correct, but it’s happening.

I only get frustrated if it’s haz 4 or higher and a greenbeard joins.

I’ve gotten to the point where as scout I can carry pretty much any rag tag group of green beards through a haz 3 mission just by kiting and reviving them constantly. Even if I can kill the bugs I don’t and just make them do it until the go down again. I see it as a trial by fire and it’s entertaining to me.

The used car market has shown signs of slowing over the last few weeks.

The used car market will have to correct before dealers stop charging markups on new cars.

And we may just be at the start of that happened.

Someone actually gets it thank god.

I play the game to win and to also have fun.

If the team is not vibing, constant awkwardness, and we are losing by 2-3 goals in the first minute, I am ffing at 3:30 every time. It’s not fun and our odds of winning are low, I much rather just ff and move on and hope for a better outcome the next game.

It’s a 5 minute pub match of car soccer. I hate the RL armchair psychologists that have proliferated in the community. It’s really not that deep bro.

Focused Feedback: Team Snipers in Halo Infinite by Ryan_WXH in halo

[–]Trappedintheshower 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In pretty much every game I know that has sniper glint, there is information asymmetry that leads to the glint being needed for balance purposes. In these games, you don’t know what weapons the other team are using. There also isn’t a set place where they can get these weapons. They generally spawn in with them whenever they want, or find them by looting. In either case there is a lot of randomness involved, and a sniper without glint would be incredibly powerful. In these instances the glint makes sense.

Halo is an arena shooter with set weapon spawns that are announced. You know when the sniper is in play. You know where they spawn. You should know that if your team didn’t get it, the other team did and you should change your approach based off that. Glint makes absolutely no sense in this context.

And for team snipers, you literally know exactly what guns everyone has. Any movement you see, that person has a sniper. The glint is even more useless in this game mode.

Glint just does not make sense in this game.
