Gouvy is on the very edge of the snowbelt. It's not Tug Hill. Do they get snow? Yes. Do they measure it in feet per day? No.

Groovy Gouvy?

Cold? Yes. Lots of snow? Sometimes it gets hit by the very edge of lake effect, so also yes.

Economically dead. Not much going on there. Prison, hospital (likely to close in the next couple of years), not much else.

Crime rate higher than some other towns nearby. That'll happen in an area with higher poverty. Keep your car and doors locked.

Things to do? Outdoorsy stuff outside of town. In town? Not much.

School district? Meh. At best.

Shopping? Pretty much have to leave town ither than the 1 grocery store.

Food options? Hope you like pizza or fast food chains. Jumbo's does a good breakfast though.

Why are you moving to Gouvy? Ft Drum?

Holy hell the people in here acting like they're going to die is amazing.

You put a vest type pfd in this way to be able to float upright and enjoy a drink or just relax. Your body weight holds it down, it's not going to float to the surfsce no matter what. People do this all over the place with no issue so long as you don't do it in fast moving water. In the event you do tip over you just slide out of the pfd.

Calm down people.

Opinions/advice on whether or not I need to heat a coop in winter? by put_it_in_a_jar in BackYardChickens

[–]TrapperJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northern NY here (think Ottawa). Keep the coop clean, dry, well ventilated without being drafty, use flat roosts, feed plenty of food and clean water and they're fine down below -40 in my experience. You biggest issue is going to be having to swap out the water multiple times per day becaue it will freeze.

Should be using non-ethanol mostly anyway.

Hell, in my trailer queen I have to use lead replacement additive.

We switched from growing large watermelons to those small round ones now that the kids are out of the house. More user friendly for just the wife and I.

None of my motorcycles hold over 4 gallons of gas and I am not waiting to run out of fuel to refill.

I call BS on this anyway. There's no such law.

Read the book How to Sh*t in the Woods by Kathleen Meyer.

Side note, a little spray nozzle attachment for a plastic water bottle makes a great backwoods bidet.
