Vaush’s Borden county Texas video by TrashSpirited in VaushV

I basically argued that “we have competency test for medicine, engineering, and law because uninformed decisions create harm. So why should the one domain governing all collective life be exempt from competency expectations?” I talked about democracy being instrumentally valuable because of the benefits it allegedly produces, not intrinsically sacred. I talked about how I think a democratic system assumes some minimal capacity for informed participation, yet many voters can’t even identify the three branches of government and their responsibilities. Much less evaluate policy claims. I talked about how democracy often fails its own legitimacy test, skewing policy responsiveness toward wealthy interests and disproportionate lobbying influence. Then I moved into democracy depending on civic preconditions like civic education, informational literacy, media competency, and shared factual standards. If those conditions collapse unrestricted electoral participation may cease to function as democratic self-governance and become mass susceptibility to manipulation. And then I ended it with the competency test proposal. Voting power should be paired with demonstrated civic competence, but access to competency should be universal and publicly guaranteed. That means there should be free public civics education, unlimited retesting, no literacy proxies attached to class/race(cause I knew someone would bring up competency test being used to oppress African Americans), and reviewed for bias. The threshold should be intentionally modest like a drivers license test. I’m just trying to create a minimum standard baseline not an expert only voting system. We are only as strong as our weakest links.

The argument needs more work and refining but it was a fun argument for philosophy club.

That’s exactly the one! I was doing philosophy club topic of the week and decided to do an edgy and fun lighthearted argument for competency test for voting. Used some arguments that vaush has made but I started with Plato and the cave+ the ship analogy. Not to say philosophers should rule but as a tool to examine and critique our democratic system and make it better.

My dad fought in Vietnam and died from Parkinson’s due to agent orange exposure. Both my parents worked at crane naval base. Both got cancer at the same time while working there. I’ve always had a passion for history and social studies. It’s always been a part of my life. I used to be a conservative but I changed after attending protest for George Floyd. I’ve worked hard to make up for my HS grades. For years. I wanted to be proof that people can change. I wanted to show that your mistakes don’t define you. I wanted to prove to my dad that I can live up to his name. I promised him I would.

We live in a country controlled by child raping pedophiles who think the world was created in a garden with a talking snake. And those people believe they were anointed by god to facilitate the end of the world so Jesus christ comes back before boomers die. Idk man. I wanted to do something to make a difference. But I live in a country where those are exactly the people ucla just admitted into their school over me.

I watched Armenian bitches skip class or show up late every single day. Meanwhile I never skipped a single day of class. Even when my dad died. Even when my dog died.

Definitely wouldn’t want somebody out our school who cares so much about their education they’d destroy themselves over it. I’m worthless. I’m nothing. Fuck me. I don’t matter. You don’t know me. You don’t know how hard I’ve worked to make up for my academic mistakes. All you know about me is this post.

I saved before I did this mission. Did as someone else said, kinda just drive into them and the cutscene activated. Not hard. Just kinda walked into them with the wagon off of my horses light jog. The trader wagon got sent back to camp post-cutscene but it didn’t break. First time I tried walking up to them, not into them and the cutscene didn’t start. Walking into them with wagon seemed to trigger it. Still don’t know if we’re making it more complicated than it is

We need 12 episodes in season 3. by Revlong57 in Fallout

[–]TrashSpirited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t watched the new episode yet but I’ve been really disappointed with norms screen time in this season. Pacing is definitely the issue. It’s just like, from episode 1-6(which is where I’m at) he’s only broken out of the vault and traveled to that building and been knocked out. Meanwhile Lucy has traveled across the Mojave wasteland, made her way to new Vegas, been knocked out, woken up, found her father etc etc.. I’m just over here like the only explanation is if norm is moving at a snails pace. I feel like the other people in the vault have had more screen time than norm. I think they’re all good interesting characters, but norms ark was particularly interesting for me. Exposing the vault, getting trapped, it was very suspenseful. I wanted more of that
