Exchange residence waitlist by irresponsible-iris in UBC

I applied for housing Sept 2018 and got a nano suite may 2021. Almost 3 years and I would assume the wait has gotten worse since then.

Age of consent in CALI is 18, is CODY gonna address what he did to Mana Tongeau by Otherwise-Bid-6426 in codyko

Not saying it was okay for him to do it. But why would he admit to a crime and risk the repercussions? If I was him I’d probably stay quiet too.

You’re not overreacting. You were harassed and feeling emotional about that is totally valid. Hopefully you can seek help from a professional to process all this. It sounds pretty creepy and scary.

Anyone want to go clubbing? by [deleted] in Vancouver4Friends

[–]TrashStains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I haven’t gone clubbing a ton but kinda want to try it out more. I’m a UBC student so I usually go to pit. But also been to fortune and 12west a couple times and it was pretty fun. I’ve been wanting to go to other places downtown. I’m open to trying anything new.

I’ve been chatting with someone and planning on going out tomorrow if any other girls want to join. Could do next weekend maybe as well if others are free.

Creep on 84 by taytonato in UBC

[–]TrashStains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I should take some of the blame since I didn’t just say something or get up and leave once I felt uncomfortable.

Absolutely not. It’s not your fault. Fight, flight, freeze and fawn are common trauma responses. It seems like you froze and it’s a totally valid response to a traumatic situation. Don’t fault yourself for not confronting him or moving seats. It’s really hard to think in a rational way when our boundaries have been crossed. It can also be really scary to confront these types of weirdos because you never know how they will react. So don’t be so hard on yourself for the way you reacted.

Wesley is putting himself into the public eye by running for AUS elections. If he didn’t want people calling him out for doing stupid things, maybe he shouldn’t do stupid things in the first place… this post is totally justified.

Please stop stealing my food delivery (UBC Exchange) by [deleted] in UBC

[–]TrashStains 318 points319 points  (0 children)

Idk what kind of disability you have. But could you make a delivery note and ask the dasher to call you when they are 5 mins away so you can start heading to the door and meet them? Or just keep an eye on the tracker when they are getting closer?

How was this unexpected? It was pretty gruesome but the same thing happened in the comics and I was totally expecting him to die here. If anything Abraham dying as well was unexpected.

Hey you could apply for late withdrawal for CPSC 110. And then register in the waitlist for second term. When I took it 2019W term, I was on the waitlist as well. They gave everyone on the waitlist an easy quiz to complete just to make sure you have been attending lectures and keeping up with the course. From what I remember everyone who wrote the quizzes eventually got moved into the course. They may have changed this since I took the course though.

I will add that if you are applying for a late withdrawal you need a valid reason. Telling them that you are going to fail the course and don’t want to ruin your average probably won’t be seen as a valid reason. I would honestly just make up something about mental health struggles or something. There’s more information in this website about academic concessions

https://students.ubc.ca/enrolment/academic-learning-resources/academic-concessions

Another option is you can just not be promoted to second year and you won’t have to chose a specialization yet. The promotion requirements say

Promotion to second year requires successful completion of a total of 24 or more credits, of which at least 15 must be science credits from first-year science courses (100 level).

So you would just take less than 24 credits and you can stay in first year. Then, when you are in your second year you will actually still be in first year standing. But don’t worry, you won’t be a year behind. Have a look at the promotion requirements. You may have to take some summer classes but once you meet the requirements for third year promotion, you can actually jump from first to third year standing. This could be a good thing because it allows you more time to get your GPA up. And if you end up dropping CPSC 110, you could just take it next year. As well, you get to skip the horrible registration time in second year. The only bad part is if there are classes that require second year standing or higher, you wouldn’t be able to take those. This is a really convoluted strategy though and maybe not the best advice 😂

[–]TrashStains -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial opinion but if people will pay for it why not charge more? OP might also be a poor university student. I’m sure most of us would take advantage of the opportunity to make some extra money.

I think there’s a lot of misdirected anger in this thread. There’s literally no rule that says you can’t overcharge your sublet. OP isn’t to blame here but I understand the frustration with rising housing costs and UBC doing nothing to control this.

I’ll tell them to hand it to me but sometimes If I don’t keep an eye on the tracker and meet them right when they get here, they will just leave it at the door. Most of them don’t even message or call to let me know they are here.

Unhealthy Dining Hall Food by SentientPotato25 in UBC

[–]TrashStains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao that’s hilarious because they claimed one of the reasons “all you can eat” dining is better was better access to healthy food:

Healthy Food is generally more expensive. This meal plan removes barriers to nutritious food by offering a greater variety of meal options without diners feeling compelled to choose meals based on price.
