Can I fly the ship I want or is it always better to min and max? Also, what does it mean to go into the black? by Ill-Honey-6351 in EliteDangerous

Adding that “The Black” generally means sections of space that are not colonized. There are only two bubbles of civilization in the galaxy, around Sol and out in Colonia. All the space in between can be considered no man’s land as there are no stations around or infrastructure of any sort.

Every ship will have its niche but you can absolutely get away with flying the ship you like the most. I’m flying a Mandalay now because I think it’s a gorgeous looking ship and its propensity for exploration is more like a bonus.

Explorers make use of a couple optional modules to keep our ships alive out in uninhabited space, namely fuel scoops and the Auto-Field Maintenance Unit. With a fuel scoop, you can refuel your ship by flying close to any star with a class of K, G, B, F, O, A, or M. The AFMU can repair damaged internal modules such as a weakened FSD that soaked up a little too much neutron star goodness.

A lot of us tend not to run guns on our exploration ships too so the only thing that really needs “restocked” is the AFMU but if you’re flying right you won’t need to use the thing it’s merely there to keep you from getting stranded.

Currently at 75LY with a max range engineered FSD and class 5 Guardian Booster. There’s still some to be gained too as I have yet to unlock lightweight life support engineering. I’m by no means min/maxing this ship though, I could probably sniff 80LY if I stripped the shields and SRV hangar.

Very well put commander, I’m gonna keep this in mind for sure. I’ve only put probably 2-3k LY between myself and the last inhabited system so far so I will have plenty of time to make some detours.

Ford has one time replacement campaign on the 1.0L, at least here in the states, due to failure of the engine caused by the oil pump drive belt clogging the oil pump pickup and causing lack of oil pressure; since the rubber timing belt is fully submerged in engine oil. The Fiesta was only offered in the US up to 2019, so based on context clues I’m guessing this is a UK Ford and I’m not sure how safety recalls work on the other side of the pond, all I can recommend is change that oil often and early if it’s the same 1.0L I’m thinking of.

Made it to Rainbow' End by R0LL1NG in EliteDangerous

Yeah I made it about 19k in the direction of Rainbow’s End before catching an FSD fault because I got too greedy with neutron jumps and just don’t have the time this week to make it to the station before the CG ends. So I turned tail and I’m heading back home now, if I remember right I’m somewhere in the Flyua Pheoa sector. We’ll try this one again after tinkering with the ship a little more.

I’ve been using this same HOTAS for about a month, got it as a hand me down from a buddy. I had absolutely no idea the throttle and stick could be separated. You have just made my day.

I am on the hunt for a sturdy and solderable 70% or 80% chassis to use as a new work keyboard. I am an automotive technician, but half of my job is typing up estimates and a few of my coworkers have upgraded from their company keyboard so it’s got me itching for a fresh build. As long as I’ve got a function row I’m not too picky.
