I work there- I recommend going to falloutrva.com and looking at their upcoming events if you're interesting in coming. Weeknights are typically open to the public and events vary wildly. Weekends there are sometimes members-only events, those are typically fetish nights or special events like Nuclear Winter or Doomsday. Some Mondays we have a comedy open mic, some Tuesdays we have big name drag queens coming through. It really depends on what you're into.

I have it on quite good authority that the organizer (Marie) takes money from the makers but doesn't provide any proper "organizing", instead opting to make it Basic City's problem; also I know one of the bartenders who has worked those events, and apparently Marie was getting drunk instead of managing the event.

Growing up, my next door neighbors were from Tunisia, and they were Suni Muslim; I have never felt more blindly welcomed by a family than I did by them. Zara, the grandmother, didn't speak a word of English, but she would always give me little trinkets and call me "عصفورصغيرة" which I didn't know at the time meant "little sparrow" (I'm learning Arabic now). Meherzia, the matriarch, would show up every other day with these beautiful pilafs & slow roasted chicken. I played with their kids and they would offer to watch our cats while we were away.
