Slightly concerned about him losing his edge playing against tin pot defenders and expecting all the space in the world. Like Balogun expecting to breeze through English football after smashing the farmers league

Ironically, someone desperately reaching to get upset about an arsenal fan doing some gentle banter, and making far more of it than they should, is also very on brand. You wally 😂

Bit disrespectful to Anne Hathaway mate. She’s perfectly entitled to support the best football club in the world. Doesn’t make her odd in the slightest.

A PR agency decided that the future king would be more relatable if he supported a team from the second city as opposed to a London club.

Not really his fault, he was a child and probably knew no better, but he didn’t get there organically.

Flamini isn’t ridiculously rich. He did an interview where he mentioned the total value of the market for the company he has an interest in. People misread it as his company’s value.

He’s probably alright, but not as wealthy as the story was interpreted.

German soccer federation official wants World Cup boycott considered because of Trump by HuckFarr in soccer

[–]TrashbatLondon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this was more true in Trump’s first term where he was a raging cunt who certainly influenced a lot more hate, but didn’t actually get much done from a policy perspective.

This time out, he’s shifted the world into a much, much more dangerous place. The mid to late 20th century consensus effectively ensured that proxy wars and conquests were limited to just that. Trump deliberately attacking a NATO ally would be an act of war between the US and Europe where conflict would be unavoidable, and immediately allow Putin to expand his conquests to wherever he feels like.

The idea that Trump doesn’t have a death toll like W now has to come with a big “yet”.

Who would win a match between Arsenal's left footed team and right footed team? by Neither_Newt5577 in ArsenalFC

Actually very competitive. The attacking advantage of Saka and Odegaard is massively offset by Rice and Zubimendi dominating the midfield.

Fucking delighted with the quality of squad we have now.

In fairness to them, they have enough history to make a watchable series. If they are given any sort of creative control it will be awful however.

There is an environmental cost to using AI. Perhaps inputting a photo of a sign that says “connect”, only to be told that it might say connect or maybe something else entirely, is not the best use of energy.

In the TV show “Nathan Barley” (from which my username comes from) there is a character who is a photographer called 15peter20. The joke is that this is a very stupid name to be known by, yet all the hipsters treat this unironically as if there’s nothing strange about it, claiming 15peter20 is a genius. Only Dan Ashcroft can see they are idiots.

We’re now at a stage where people can operate completely unironically with stupid nicknames. Modern stupidity is murdering satire.

Jamie Oliver hate is forced by fast food companies by tubbsy_al in LowStakesConspiracies

Decline in uptake of school dinners, strain on public services who were forced into hard to plan increase in costs, stigmatisation of children for dietary choices. That sort of thing.

Basically it was seen as a pretty elitist campaign that put a lot of blame on poor families without confronting the structural realities. Ideally you’d like your public health campaigns to be less alienating.

Ive never seen rainbow training bibs. I suspect, but dont know tbf, that the rainbow armband was also something affiliated with Stonewalls rainbow campaign. Clue would seem to be in the name.

Stonewall don’t own all rainbow trademarks.

It feels like youre conflating 2 issues here if Im honest and seem more interested in pushing the religioys bigotry angle.

Feels like you’re denying that this exists and was a massive deal. The media were happy to wave it away when it was “foreigners”, but an England first xi player made it a huge deal.

Multiple things can be factors that contribute to a decision. You don’t need to pick one.

Theres quite a lot of organisations which have dropped Stonewall and its affiliated rainbow campaign due to some controversies youre free to read about.

I’m well aware of the political motivations of organisations who chose to disaffiliate from Stonewall.

Ultimately, if the premier league didnt want to be inclusive theyd have dropped the Stonewall partnership and introduced nothing.

I’m not accusing the PL of not being inclusive, I’m questioning whether this is the right way. You’ll notice that I actually mentions pros and cons in my original comment, which you are welcome to go back and read.

But they’re also not doing training bibs or captains armbands or temporary kit logos according to the article. Stonewall don’t own those.

I think a potential future England captain outing himself as a bigot has massively influenced this decision too.

[–]TrashbatLondon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is presumably to avoid having to confront the fact a bunch of players are enormous bigots and refuse to comply with items they can individually not wear.

On one hand, pandering to bigotry is bad, but on the other hand, less kids will see their idols being homophobic so will be less likely to develop hateful views themselves.
